When Spellcrafting first came out, we Spellcrafters were amazed and ecstatic to find that player-made cloaks could be made sc'able if they had a alchemy charge put on them. Putting a charge on a woolen cloak of any type would change it from a level 0 item with no imbue points to a level 47 item, which has 25 imbue points for a 99% quality item and 29 for an MP (MP cloaks were pretty easy to make and incredibly cheap at 20 wool cloth squares and 14 thread). Oh happy day !!!!
Mythic quickly discovered this and announced that it was a bug and that a patch would be released to fix it. They said that since so many players had one of these SC'ed cloaks, existing cloaks would be left as-is, but that cloaks made after the patch would not be able to accept a charge, thus fixing this "problem". From this, we extrapolated (ok, we hoped) that any cloaks that were already charged would remain imbuable, even if they had not yet been spellcrafted. Thus, the night before the patch rolled out, there was an epic all-nighter to make as many sc'able cloaks as possible. The next day we discovered that we were right !!! These cloaks were refereed to as "pre-patch cloaks", and were in great demand, since no more could ever be made. I put one on every toon I had, and had a dozen or so left over. I sold one to replenish my funds that were depleted by the mad all-nighter, and got 10 plat for it. And this was back when, to paraphrase my gramps, a plat was real money.
When I came back to the game later after the consolidation of all the servers into the Ymain family, I re-claimed my toons and discovered that I still had my stash of "ready for SC" pre-patch cloaks in my vault. When I advertised one for sale, I got mobbed - I finally sold it for a bit over 100 plat.
This completes our Wayback Machine for today. If I got any details wrong, I'm sure someone will correct me, but I'm not making this up.
