Seems simple enough for me...

Why code new stuff when a simple fix will work. They already had an account vault and it works so much better than having to trade with someone.

Didn’t they code this money merchant you need to buy something from and put into vault?
So why didn’t they just allow coinage to be out in shared vault?

It is probably significantly easier to just add items and place a merchant with those items than to alter the vault system itself to accept coinage and fixing it's UI to show it.
