For all the people with small kids who want to play with them at DAoC.

Would it be possible to request the No-BoT Test in advance ? To verify if the kid is able to pass it or not ?
If not well, kid can still play around on daddy's account (or mommy) and if he is ready, he'll have an account of his own.

Hello Chaskha,

It is a pleasure to read that your kid will play on Phoenix one day.

In relation to this, we cannot do a bot test in advance as we constantly check for botting to try and keep the server clean. This means that just because two people playing together did not appear to be bots before, they may be checked later (especially if we receive a report that something strange is going on). In other words, there is no flat 'pass' after which we stop checking.

For the situation you described, I would recommend the kid opening his/her own account one day, when they are interested and ready to play. Otherwise, there is a risk that a staff member will check you both and ban one of the accounts on the basis that it appears to be a bot.

Chaskha,

Just had this exact situation happen to me and my kid. I'll sometimes let our little one play while her mother is on 2nd shift (and i realllllyyyy want to relax with daoc). Got the bot test - failed spectacularly, lol. Can not stress enough what Tyrael suggests, get them their own account just in case. At first I was worried about the whole multiple accounts rule, but seeing Tyrael suggest it makes me feel much better about doing so. Sucks that sometimes legit players get hit like this, but its far better than the alternative of tons of multi-boxers running around destroying pve.

Wonder what percentage of “family” players are bots? Seems odd to me the whole family can play for 8+ hrs at a stretch.

My kid has an account but they are still level 1 because i can't get them off Smash Bros long enough to play with me.

Well, I have a wife and FOUR children. Spread out so that I have had AT LEAST one child of age to play with me for 20 years. During those 20 years, the basement has had AT MINIMUM of two PCs. Of those twenty years, they have played FAR, FAR more than I ever have.

And in those twenty years... not even one single day have one of them agreed to play a buffbot class, or even a healing archetype.
Even if they do play... when they are young, they are running in circles or dancing. When they get older, they want far more keypresses per minute than I do in an hour.

So, when they say the aug shaman is their kid's character on the kid's computer... that might be true... but the kid isn't aware of it. He's watching youtube. 100% of the time.

Agreed. If the family plays with me I usually end up being the healer.

It’s great more young blood seems to be coming into the DAoC playerbase. I smile when I hear couples and/or family members playing together too. Don’t be concerned with the buff bot testing and/or duel logging- get on, play and have fun. If someone needs to AFK for an extended period just have them log out. I know some purposefully also don’t play a healing/buffing classes to help avoid that situation. Either way we want everyone to be able to play and have fun together!
