I live in Oregon and work in the school system in our state capital, Salem. Currently our biggest city is being hit with a Measles outbreak that has infected 30+ people so far, 27 have so far been confirmed as non vaccinated with 4 more as unknown.
I understand people's rights to to a lot of things, but for the protection of not only your family, but mine as well as everyone elses, please take the time to educate yourself properly on vaccines before just choosing to opt out. Portland has one of the highest opt out rates for vaccinations in our country and it is showing right now. Your children as well as mine deserve a chance to grow up healthy and strong, vaccinations help them drastically.
A friend of mine has a beautiful baby girl who has contracted this horrible disease and is in rough shape. She is to young to have received the vaccination and is currently at home.
It isn't just Oregon, but also Washington and Idaho I believe being hit so my heart goes out to them.
Keep your children safe no matter where you live and take the time to protect them as well as you can.
Remember, a simple and cheap if not free 2 dose vaccination is 97% effective at keeping this disease under control, but choosing to not vaccinate puts not just your family but those around you at risk.
