I'm a complete mess. So far I've figured out number lock is auto run. I can't figure out how to go in and out of combat. I haven't played this in 16 years and I'm having such a hard time right now. Do you guys have an efficient way you set up your keyboard for RvR and pve?

/keyboard is how you assign keys

Make sure you go to options and turn on 3 quickbars.

Depends on your class how you set up the bars.

I have 3 bars on my necro one for buffs and pots and stuff two for spells and macros.

On a caster i tend to set up the main bar with quick cast as number 10 and then set up various keys with lower numbers assigned to things i use the most.

For example, the simplest caster like a light enchanter might look like this

1. Spec nuke
2. Attack pet (Shift drag attack button to get icon)
3. Passive pet(Shift drag passive button to get icon)
4. Stun
10 is quick cast.

I have /face assigned to F, i think. V is sprint, i think.

Melee toons will be similar. 1. will be ur anytime style then next will be reactive styles for block/parry/evade, then positionals like side or rear attack. Somewhere in there slam or snare styles maybe on another bar like alt+1 also for casters i use interrupts on alt+number bar or for nearsight etc.

Then drag your pots to bar for buffs/power/heal etc.

Play around in pve a bunch until u get it.

I usually have my attack type icons on bar 1 (bottom middle), debuffs, mez, root on bar 2 (alt+number positioned on top of bar 1) and I have bar 3 on the top left vertical position for buffs and not often used spells.

Sprint is on V
Sit is on X

Some buttons that I need to use in the heat of the moment I use Qbinds:
Quickcast is on Q
Pet attack is on E

I don't use WASD for movement. I changed my movement keys to ESDF which opens up QWA for keybinds.

The more common spells/attack styles etc. should be bound to easy to reach keys. That will make playing the game MUCH easier and intuitive for you.

For melee I always found this to be easiest:

1 Reactionary
2 Follow up to the anytime
3 the anytime

You have to already be attacking for this to work. In combat I just roll through 1,2,3 and it works pretty well. I have side style on 4, rear style on 5. All close to WASD. I have additional styles from 6-8. After that it depends on the class. On the Ranger I have a quiver slot on 9, and a "next bar" qbind on 10, so to swap arrows I hit 10 then 9 and it just rotates through my arrow stack like rotating weapons on Battlefield or any other FPS. To make this work I have my bars duplicated 3 times with the only difference being 9 and 10

I removed strafe and put it down on n and m.

I use q for /stick, mouse4 for /face, x for sprint, d for reset camera and b for sit, moved /send to y. I deleted all F1-4 group selection.
1-10, a, e, r, t, f, g, z, c, v, caps lock (was changed to delete), F1-4, are all avail to use for qbinds.
Buffs are something I click.

Imo, it's hard getting used to all the new keys, but just force yourself every day to use one more.

Dont use any higher number than 4 , max 5, the rest is too far away.
Daoc doesnt have that many abilities you are fine sticking to 1234(5) + letters, f1-f4 etc.
I have bound "Caps lock" to "k" in windows, making it to another qbind option.
