Concerning the SC 'bug'

This is ridiculous.

https://forum.playphoenix.online/viewtopic.php?f=2&p=40068#p40068

On march 1st, you decide to fix a 'bug' that has been there since beta. A 'bug' that pretty much everyone knew about, since everytime someone asked in /advice what the OC rate was, people said that on phoenix 6.5 was possible.

Before i made my SC, i've seen people countless time say in /advice that OC rate is 6.5, thinking that this was one of the countless custom changes.

Why in god's name did you watch this unfold for weeks and months, only to strip people on march 4th of their SC. Even if it was a bug, by watching it happen for weeks and months and seeing it being communicated over /advice every time someone asked about OC rate, you implied that this was a legit custom change. It's not that you weren't quick to step in whenever someone talked about superbowl or politics in /advice chat. Hell it didn't take 2 sec to be shut down by a Dev when I once said something witty in /advice. But on this subject, you've been quietly watching for months.

This is disgruntling.

I played since i50 and never head of this bug

And I'm quite active on /advice

Yeah my experience is also completely different. I'm not sure exactly when, maybe 3-4 weeks ago, I saw bug reports/Discord discussion about the 6.5 bug. Started to see it in game and almost entirely people would say 6.5 was possible but a bug and you should probably not do that. The only fault I can lay on the staff is the time it took to fix this but they've had their hands full so what can you do.

Anyone who said it was a custom change is an idiot that should have spent one minute checking the wiki.

I knew about this bug and still SCd my whole template with 5.5.
I'm so smart and now cry somewhere else

I was not aware of this bug either, and still dont really understand how i sc'ed an item with 6,5 OC, using .mox-datas which dont allow for more than 5,5 pts overcharge in their displays (=black item, impossible-> calculate again^^). So I think its fair to delete the SC-Effects on all worn items and thus allowing to simply re-sc them, and adressing this issue in general is good, shows staff really cares about balance and even unintended bug abuse.

Never heard of it and I'm pretty active in /advice too since release.

And now the staff should proceed and flag every account with a warning due to violation of rule 10.1. Just kidding
I can't find anything in the bug tracker concerning overcharge but making a template based on a bug is grossly negligent.

I'd have given everyone who lost his stats a flat amount of gold per item to rebuild the gems though.

I can see it is a bug and approve of fixing it. The fact they remove all SC of all items of the listed person is what leads me to a question. I got 1 item with 6.5 OC. I dont wear it, and i SCed it only to see if it is possible and kept it to prove to people that it is indeed possible.
It does not have any value to me. If i sell it or throw it away, would that save me from getting all SC removed from my 5.5 OC items?

So instead of asking from a legit source where the mods could actually read it, where the information stays and doesn't get cycled out before someone with authority can properly answer it, you instead ask a few times in advice, which is filled with random people, most of which have no business posting in advice, and based your judgment on that. You then get mad when the information you gathered from said random strangers ends up being incorrect, and want to use an excuse that since you were told and what you read in advice must have been the correct information? This is like saying you took a car off a dealers lot because another customer said they were free. If something looks wrong, ask the proper channels. If you go ahead with something, don't get mad when the powers that be come around and change it to what it is supposed to be. Be glad that they are understanding on the issue and are just removing the SC. Many games would just ban the players for exploiting a bug in the game, their fault or not.

the funny thing is i knew nothing of this bug and im on the list, i even dont know which item it is

Knowing about the bug and exploiting it are two very different things. Just because its been there since beta, doesn't make it alright for you to abuse. Stripping the SC from those assets is the right thing to do in order to re-level the playing field. They could have gone further and banned those found to have consistently abused it, but they elected not to. Also, there are many SC'ing resources on this forum and elsewhere stating the 33.5 / 37.5 OC, which has been in place for as long as spell crafting has been a profession. Assuming that its suddenly 34.5 / 38.5 is wrong on your part.

/advice isn't always right, especially if they've been around DAOC for any length of time.

So do I get compensated for the average 22 gold per piece (7x) that I spent on original SC that is now being erased?
Fri 1 Mar 2019 5:58 PM by Anaethema
I've been playing since the start of Beta and never heard of this bug. Whether or not you agree, if you take advantage of something that isn't supposed to be in game don't complain when it gets fixed. Be glad you had an advantage for as long as you did.
Fri 1 Mar 2019 6:18 PM by Nastai
Advantage? It's not like it allowed anyone to go over 75 / 26 / 11.

People using and not using the bug are still sitting at the same stats. Templating isn't difficult.

It is a bug and thats why it needs a fix.
