Classes with versatility

Which classes have the most versatility, I like playing hybrid classes the most. Like Druid in WoW, being able to fill a different role is nice. I was really interested in Warden as well as Friar, but Friar doesn't seem that welcomed and Warden seems to just be given only a healing job.

There is nothing really as versatile as druid in wow that could que into dungeons as tank, healer and dps at the same time.

That being said, the most versatile class and closest to WoW Druid levels, IMO, is the Cabalist (Think Warlock from WoW but with more utility). Lifedrain, DoT, Root, life-transfer, Nearsight, Debuffs, Disease, recycle pets for mana and 5 different pets depending on the situation.
In PvE they can be main tank or aoe dps with Focus Shield and AoE DoT

So you CAN with your Cabalist depending on your spec and the situation, Tank, DPS or off heal

Don't forget sorc (mezz, root, dd, pom, speed-buff, pet, str/con and dex/qui debuffs all in one (split-)spec.

And eld (like the sorc but without pom, pet and speed but with nearsight, (aoe)disease an pbae).

And runies (pbt, nearsight, confuse, solid dmg).

And theus (petspam or nukes, pbt and/ore roots/mezz) as mentioned before.

And mentas (nukes, charm, demez, heals (or dots coupled with pom and hot)).

The afore mentioned cab (debuff-nuker with a strong pet or tri-spec with nearsight added in).

Many options imo!

Nothing Hybrids like a Thane.

I mean, have you seen those hammers?

Plus you can tank bosses if you need to.

I have no experience with WOW, but minstrel is pretty versatile, can stealth group, tank with pet, CC a bit, swing a weapon, etc

Minstrel belongs in this conversation for sure. With the sheer variety of charmable pets and the fact that they aren't restricted to level 50, stealth, speed, instant stun...

Most classes in Daoc has a specific role, with a specific spec. There are few tri-spec classes that will do well in both short and long run. By speccing low you'll end up with a result that can be compensated with items or crafted usable. You do find group setups with players who do find success for it, but it is considered as a niche and that is hard to just fit in to pugs.

Wardens are often thought of as a great hybrid, with great offense, great defense and support utility. On Phoenix it has great support utility but no offense and no defense (buffs I classify as utility). You won't see many successful players with any other spec but 49 nurt 42 reg 10 blades.

Friars were trash in Live on this patch, and got heavily reworked at a later point to the point where they were considered a one-man-army. Their unique playstyle comes from staff styles, and I would guess that they only need adjustments to growth to be great peelers and support players. I really don't know how to make them shine, because they were always a big problem for Mythic before their rework and were possibly the least played classed along with paladins on live during this time.

One could argue that the Animist has amazing versatility. The Arb spec line is decent for aoe bombing in rvr, and shroom keep defence. The Verdant line is an amazing group pve spec, with a decent killing efficiency if your pet has buffs, and is most importantly SAFE because of aoe damage from pet maintaining aggro through heals. Then here comes the creeping spec line. While not as much killing efficiency as a grouped verd animist, the xp actually comes faster due to the amount of steady kills you rack up, along with xp item turn ins, and Phoenix eggs.

The animist can just do a little bit of everything. I highly recommend turning off xp at 49.5 for unlimited free respecs. Those last few level points don't do much for an animist anyway.

After all this info, and I still can't find a class I want to play....

Shaman maybe?

In PvE you'll basically be a healer for group play, but you can also be one of the msot effective solo levelers in the game if you respec to Cave and DoT+Disease kite mobs with perma-sprint. You will also be able to keep yourself buffed. In RvR you'll be a priority target for the enemy group and will have to adjust a lot on the fly when you have to play defensively or when you can go more aggressive.

The classic melee+caster examples are of course Thane and Valewalker. Thane has the option to go tanky, while valewhalker has higher dmg and utility.

Versatility is tough to quanity. many classes can fill many roles and be useful in different ways, but none can really fill more than one or two archetypes.

That said, daoc doesnt really use the traditional archetypes of tank/heal/dps. There is CC, interrupting, peeling etc that are VERY important aspects of pvp, that many classes in many different traditional archetypes can fulfill in different ways.

Well what I'm looking for is a class where say I get bored of healing, I can then switch to tanking. Which after reading all this I don't think there is any. So far it seems like the classes are very strict even for the hybrid ones, not to mention the 8man rvr meta, which makes things even worse for hybrids. I'm starting to think this game doesn't have the kind of class I'm looking for

On the upside, it is very fast to level up more than one class and play what you feel like playing.

No tank/healing hybrids here. DPS/healing, healing/support, tank/DPS.

Just make two characters! Phoenix has incredible XP.
