A few questions on Thanes, Hunters & farm toons

Hi all,

Played DAoC in my teens between SI-Darkness Rising, and for a month or so on a well-known competing freeshard early last year. On live I got a Thane to 50 but really had no comprehension of endgame, had LOTS of low level alts all over the place, and last year I got an Armsman to like level 35 and had a blast.

I've read all the changes but don't think I'll really appreciate/understand them until I see them in action.

My friends and I are going to play Mid. I see that Thanes are getting Det and plainly see why the lack of this on any class was problematic for anyone wanting to RvR. I also see big buffs to their Stormcalling line. Is 50 SC, 42 Shield and 39 Hammer still a viable spec? I like to shield-tank, and usually invest heavily in the 'special' line of any class I play.

I work shifts and have a toddler so will be playing at odd times through weekdays on my own without my friends, so I thought a Hunter would be a perfect solo choice to casually level - especially with the XP boost mechanics. If I want to invest heavily in bow and BC, what specs are viable? I'd also prefer spear, as a unique classline, to swords. Also, is it right that autotrain still applies to skills you invest in on this server, so I won't have to go 1-50 in melee just for a few extra points?

Lastly, because of the item drop and XP gain changes I've read some people saying that 1st character 'bank/farm toons' like Necros and BDs aren't necessary? Is this right? Not the worst thing if not because I liked BDs.

Thanks!

To hunters: 35 Bow is max you should get, because bowdmg is kind of low and more invest is not needed.
Thanes are great and 42 shield is a musthave imo.

Yes, you get the autotrain for free on top no matter what you specced.

And with this fast progress on xp you should lvl at first your farmchar, in my humble oppinion.
