I know this may be a dumb question but what is the maximum spec you can get from armor and jewlery in this? Is it +6? Sorry it's been 16 years...

Hi Shamus!
Skill cap from items is based on level and is +11 @ level 50.

you can have +11 at level 50.
After that, every realm rank you achieve (2L0, 3L0, 4L0...) you will get a free +1 to all spec lines. This means that as you progress in your realm ranks you can actually remove points from some spec lines and still get your composite 50 and reinvest those points in other lines that need the points. A good example of this is an assassin class removing points from stealth and poison to reinvest in weapon lines

Yes that is correct

So at RR8 you have +7 to all skills. With full cap of stats that's +18 to all skills so to get composite 50 in a skill you would only need to spec 32 in the skill.

What's composite 50 mean??
Fri 30 Nov 2018 4:29 PM by romulus
Composite just means you sum your training rank, item bonuses, and realm rank bonus together.

For example, a Level 50 5L0 Scout with 40 in the Bow skill and maxed skills on items, would have a composite Bow skill of (40 (training)+ 11 (items) + 4 (RR)) = 55.

What Sieg is saying is that as your RR goes up, you can lower your training to maintain the same composite skill value. Those training points can be put into something else via respeccing.

I understand but if I was a Hero with 50+ blades wouldnt I not want to respect and just put as much into blades as I possibly can for maximum damage?

Like everything in DAoC, there are tradeoffs. While you certainly could go for as much blade skill as possible, and yes it will affect your damage output, you have to decide if the few extra points of damage are worth the cost in skill points. Sometimes it's better to hit a specific composite value, and then spend the points recovered in a different skill line (like parry or shields).

Ok I gotcha. Thanks a bunch!

Also, there are spec lines where going over 50 composite has no (or very little) effect, envenom and stealth are examples. Or secondary weapon skills, like Blades on a DW Blademaster.

That only matters if you are using ONLY Celtic Dual styles in a Wyrd spec. If you are using Blades styles along with Celtic Dual styles then going over 50 composite does matter.
