Names taken, people asking if I play a character that I don’t, strange behaviour from some players?

Hello, is there someone who appropriated my name? I just use a variation of my forum name, but every one now seems to be taken? I have had a few people ask me if I have a skald (I do but at level 1 and not even logged in once, just created) and there has been some rude behaviour towards me.

I think it would be an easy way to tell if someone did take my name variations. Any character not linked to my account isn’t me.

I feel like there is some griefing going on but I have no idea why.

Bump. A skald using a variation of my name has been griefing, probably on a multi account.

I guess I pissed someone off?

Are you going to look into this or do I have to track down my griefer myself?

Is it possible that he is not trying to pretend to be you but just happened to pick a similar name?

I have been using variations of my forum name just with added characters, now every single variation I can try to type in is used.

If the Herald had a search function I could identify which characters exactly are not mine.

Or, as Chryso already said, someone is just using a name similar.

Names are not reserved here, they are all first come first served.

There are only so many variations you can have and the server has a TON of characters made, it seems like a stretch that you assume they are just griefing you are stealing your names.

I doubt someone is intentionally using your names, it's just that similarities arise with thousands of characters created.

Just yesterday a friend of mine told me via whatsapp "I texted you and went LD right away, haha" and then I asked where he texted me and he told me "in daoc, just 20 minutes ago". Which was impossible as I wasn't even close to coming online at that time.

But as it turns out my RM is called "Victoz" (which is one of the few variations of "Victos"(my main name for the last 17-18 years) I use) and someone has a SM called "Victorz".

I'm sure this guy doesn't know me and neither do I know him but I'm quite confident that more such confusions will occur. If my friend mistakes that guy for me even though he knows I would never add an "R" in there then I'm sure other people will too.

This of course is no issue for as long as all parties behave according to the rules - but if any of us starts to do crap I'm quite sure the other one has to explain himself quite frequently.

But that's just the way it is, it happens, even in real life. There are multiple boys in my son's class with his name and it happened more than once that he got blamed for something the other guys did. But it's usually easy to clear such situations up by talking.

So if some people act strange towards you, just ask why and try to solve the problem.
