Does logging in to the char select screen start your realm timer? (is it safe to log in to check if you can switch?)

Heya, just wondering if the realm switch timer starts upon actually logging in/out a character or does it also trigger from just logging into the character select screen? Afraid to log in to check if I'm able to switch because I don't know if it's been 12 hours and don't want it to start over. Thanks!

When you log on through our phoenix launcher, you won't directly log into the game but either into your char select (realm timer not up yet) or you land on the realm selection screen (realm timer up). So either way is fine. Just don't log a character into the game or create a new one.

A question I guess tied to this in a way. I started this freeshard with friends. I assumed they would go Hib, so I made my first character there. I was then told to go Alb and had to wait the timer. Stupid me never deleted the Hib character, so my name is kinda locked. I've been afraid to select hib to delete it, mainly because I didn't want to wait 12 hours to do it. Will selecting the Hib realm to delete a character start the 12 hour wait timer before I can rejoin Alb?

If you delete all chars from a realm you are no longer locked to that realm.
