@GameMasters
My friend recently got surprised by an account sharing ban after logging in following over 6 months of account inactivity. Apparently his daughter logged into her account on his PC ONCE back in March which triggered a 3 day ban and ruined our attempt at some DAOC on Halloween. https://forum.playphoenix.online/server/bans/27293-banned-klinkster-ethliure
This policy now has our attention because both of us are about to upgrade computers.

I'm going to be handing down my PC to my son soon when I upgrade to a new PC. No problem for my account. I will have almost a completely new machine with new identifiers (however I'm retaining the Nvidia RTX video card).
However, the old PC will have mostly the same old hardware (i.e. motherboard, ssd, hard drive) I've been using. The old PC has capable hardware and plenty of life left for my son to use as a gaming PC. There must be some reasonable way he can use this PC for his Pheonix DAOC account. How can I reconfigure it so he can use it for Pheonix? I read in the forum's an old PC can "never" be used by another account. If this is true, this is overly restrictive IMHO and will definitely contribute to player loss... the type of players that are good for the player population.

Obviously I think the "account sharing" policy today is unreasonable and the punishment is too harsh. It's just too easy in a house full of kids that also play DAOC to screw this one up for everyone (especially the innocent parent). I also recognize some players use their accounts on multiple PCs and that capability should remain.
I propose an alternate more reasonable process/policy:
- 1) When a new computer identity is detected for the account warn the player at the login authorization attempt that new hardware was found and, if eligible given 2) below, the account will become linked to this hardware and all other accounts will be inaccessible for this hardware if the user clicks Proceed... otherwise user can click Cancel. If not eligible deny the login.
- 2) Allow a hardware transfer every X weeks (X is something less than infinity, 2? 4?). [Permanence is just to permanent!]
Thank you for your time!
