Anybody have this working with WIndows XP as a guest OS in VirtualBox?

I have a Windows XP VM that I can run in VirtualBox on my MacBook Pro. It has DirectX 9 with Direct3D support added via the Guest Additions, and I got it to the point where I can create a character. However
- My character isn't actually visible on the character creation screen or when I login
- When I finish character creation and hit Play, the game crashes about 2 seconds after I get logged in, with no message

I don't see any mention of anybody successfully running the game using WIndows XP via VIrtualBox, so before I put more energy into it I thought I'd ask whether it should be possible. Thanks.

FWIW, I was able to get Phoenix working on my Mac using a combination of my Windows XP VM and Wine. It was kind of strange, but I thought this might help others.

The XP VM I have in VirtualBox would crash reliably, but had worked up through the point of logging into the game. (Except that my character was not visible during character creation).

I installed Wine (which itself required installation of XQuartz, and update of a few things like the .NET package within Wine). This let me install the live client, but then the Phoenix patcher would not work. It would simply start up in Wine and die silently.

So, in the end I copied the DAOC directory from within my VirtualBox VM to my host MacOS using a shared folder. Because that had been patched already using Phoenix.exe, it ran just fine under Wine when the same Phoenix.exe would crash in the unpatched environment.

If somebody wants me to try to figure out why Phoenix.exe wouldn't work in Wine without it already having been run (a real bootstrapping problem if ever there was one), please let me know and I can run any diagnostics you can provide.
