I'm looking to make a serious go at this server, and want to RvR hard whenever I can. Which realm should I roll on? and if anyone has insight into the more needed classes that would be greatly appreciated! ^.^
Answering a few questions will help you determine what fits you better.
1. Do you enjoy a more casual playstyle? If so, then the quick/easy answer is go mid. There are setbacks and some will say thats not the right way to look at it. But mid is more casual friendly. Theres really not a class on mid that is unaccepted, and PUG's are more prominent on Mid. Alb and Hib can and do still put together extremely dominant groups and/or zergs, but MID groups are by default easier to accomplish and depending on time, Mid zerg is greater than hib or alb zerg.
2. If you answered no to the above, and deem yourself a more "Serious" set 8 man player, then its a coin toss to me. All realms can have group setups that are extremely dominant. If you are a very serious player, and can prove it, then you will find your clique naturally and find a solid nightly group who you can join nightly.
3. Zerg surfing. I play US Eastern and typically mid has more numbers. Numbers generally indicate a larger zerg. I have played all realms, and typically choose to discuss with my friends where to play on a given night.
4. What character archetype do you enjoy? Mid is probably more melee dps heavy. HIb and Alb are melee light on Pheonix for multiple reasons, but their casters hit hard especially if they are proficient at assisting and debuffing. CC is king on this server, imo.
In the end. Play what you like. Don't play for someone else. Heal if you enjoy it. Melee if you enjoy it. Roll a caster if you enjoy it. Flexibility will be key, but there is a spot for everyone (maybe i'm being naive, but i try to give people the benefit of the doubt).
If you feel like every Alb class is underpowered, and enjoy listening to constant whining about Mid and Hib overpowered classes, then Albion might just be for you.
I had to stop levelling my Sorc at 20, couldn't deal with the constant crying in /reg.
Regarding Midgard: My observation is that the most required classes are shamans, healers both pac and aug, warriors and skalds. If you feel like playing any of these you will find a lot of groups. They are all also really easy to level, as both supports and warriors find bomber groups very easily and skalds can solo level with task items at incredible speed.
If it has to be a caster, Runemasters are the most searched for. Spiritmasters have a harder time finding groups (which is a shame if you ask me, dark sm is a really strong class) and while bonedancers are staple in both caster and hybrid setups there's a LOT of them.
Wow thank you for that reply it really does help me a lot. I think I will go with mid because I generally enjoy melee more, and i do have real life commitments so the ability to pug easier does appeal to me. I know nothing of Midgard classes and I thank you for those recommendations, are there any mid classes similar to say a friar, with the damage and solo capability?

Only non stealther melee that solos well on Mid is Skald... and even then 90% of your time will be spent ran down by full hibs groups by bards with a quarter wedged into their aoe amnesia keybind.
Best part about skalds though is you can sidecar other groups due to speed.
I recommend you to simply play what you like. People in this game are very quick to generalize a realm based on certain archetypes. I.E. mid is more casual friendly Hib is the elitist realm
Etc.
While these generalisations may be based on real realm based trends, don't expect that these will generally be your experiences.
I am mostly rvring on my Arms in Albion. Sometimes I meet people who think everything hasto be elitist and perfect, sometimes I meet high RR clerics who buff me with acuity.
In my personal opinion, if you are capable of creating grps, be social, use discord and are open to really learning your role, you will have fun and gain RPS.
My groups often have classes in them that, based on these forums, you would assume never get invited.
