What is the role of Light Tanks in RVR/8 mans?

I'm close to being a complete RVR noob, but I want to learn to be decent/not an idiot.

I tend to favor Light Tanks and Heavy Tanks.

From what I understand, Light Tanks lead the 8 man train and are considered MA and choose targets to focus on?

Heavy Tanks assist and peel? Which I assume means snare and then move onto the next target and snare, etc?

I really enjoy Berserker and Warrior. As a Zerker, would my responsibility be to choose targets for our groups? I assume they try to target the healer as best as they can?

If you are new you will be assisting someone else who will choose the target.

So the MA isn't dependent on class, but depends on the skill of a group mate?

Primarily you will want both to be true. In a Midgard group you will usually have more than one light tank.

But if I had to choose I would have a veteran warrior choose targets over a new to the game zerk.

Which class would you recommend to a beginner of RVR overall?

Warrior or Berserker? (I like them equally, I'd say)

Zerker is far easier to learn than Warrior

I would recommend savage over zerker though, seems like they are a bit better on this server

Maybe a mid can concur this opinion ?

Anyway, if you don't like savage, go for zerker, it may be the easiest melee class in the game : click target, double frost its ass until one of you die

Depends entirely on the group. In a caster group, one or two light tanks / tanks are used for peel patrol while in melee groups they are used as main melee damage.
