Heya, I have to admit im too old for RvR now. I can not keep up with this (dont laugh now) fast actions and movement. Kite,Peel,Kite,Kite. There are really people who have mastered this game in my eyes i cannot keep up.
Are there some people who cant keep up with this group play either? What do you recommend to play , I mean without RvR there is not really much sense on DAoC is it :-)

Or is there a more easy class in 8v8 that doesnt need much reaction?
I would love to join 8vs8 but I am no big help agains this groups we are facing nowadays, so I guess I should choose a stealther :-)

I am also too old for RVR. I'm combating my slower reaction time by picking classes that could be played by using other ability types. My goal is to contribute as much as possible and have fun. Both are vitally important and I will not play if either is missing. The following techniques are not optimal, but they are better than nothing, haha!
  • Play a healer and focus on YOUR positioning in the group, and concentrate on buffing allies and casting group heals.
  • Play one of the classes that provides blade turn (PBT) and try to keep everyone in your bubble.
  • Play one of the pet classes and use your pet strategically to engage casters of other realms.
  • Play a shield tank and /stick to melee DPS group member and /assist as much as you can.

Hello Ganaka, im not talking about casual rvr but elit rvr ,if you play a Tank like that you mentioned ,you will lose agains elit group and get kicked out of your group after some rounds. Doesnt matter if you play Armsman,Hero or Warrior ,you need to snare the enemy tanks before they do it to you. After this you got a small time window to guard your group mates before you need to snare again. I just hit 50 and tried to play like that , i had a friendly group which replaced me after some rounds but at least they were friendly by doing this in kind words,I can understand them.

But I will check the other classes you mentioned

Cheers

There are keybinds available to target your group members. F1-F4 targets the first 4. Shift F1 - Shift F4 targets the second 4. So hit F3 to target the person listed as #3, hit Shift F2 to target the person listed as #6. .. As for the rest, yes getting old sucks. (not so) haha

Lol.. a stealther has to switch weapons, to react very fast to use positionals, and reactive styles.

I guess, it has nothing to do with too old. What is old for you? Over 40? - Over 50? - over 60? We had in my guild the main part of members from the first category, lot players from the second and some from the third one. And we were a strong RvR focused guild at live server.

You have to learn how to optimize your keyboard setting, How to use key-binds and make them most comfortable for you.

Use good comfortable UI and try to place all the most used parts of them close one to another - so you will have an optimum of overview and shortest ways to use of your mouse and keyboard.

With a main heal class you are able to be a good healer without additional key-binds. There are lot of special MMO mice, having 12 or more buttons on ot. Thus you will be able to manage your character quite with a mouse only. For a main healer class it will be optimum! You mast learn to find optimal position of your toon in the fight always, that's all!

Besides of main healer - secondary healer is good option for you - especially as heal warden - keep bubble, keep buffs, heal, cure disease/poison, ressurec. Or a heal friar.

Archer classes with full archery skill are mainly "slow" classes as well.

Light tanks are also good opportunity - make damage on first target in assist, stay alive. Bersi is 2 buttons class for example.

Skald is also simple - your are mainy a speed bot. You can rupt enemy caster in fight, but nobody assume, you will make it perfect, your rupt abilities are very low, to be good rupter, you are running with assisttrain and makeing damage. But you are just a kind of damage add for true damage dealers. Just push assist-macro on main damage dealer and hit the enemy - that's all! And stay alive.

Or play a caster with NS. Stay in fight at highest range and cast from 2300 you nearsight to enemy healers and casters and then - disease on tanks and everyone in enemy group who still alive. After this - make damage, debuffs and use a pet. Cabalist or Eldrich are both - the best choice for such play style.

Don't try to be elite.

Just have fun and if that isn't good enough for someone to hell with them.

Some "I win classes" Easy to win.

1. Animist. It is a little complicated but make some macros like /macro 0 /groundset 0 Macro 500 /groundset 500 and /macro 1000 /groundset 1000. Then set up your shrooms for the dmg shroom and the root shroom (Arb) and make shrooms. Does well in keep defense/relic defense.

2. Sup BD, has instant lifetap and some heal pets. You can I win with this one.

3. Theurgist-- try ice pets. They snare with 2000 range plus they keep nuking its annoying. Drop 5 pets on someone and even if you die they probably will as well.

4. Any main tank. 42 shield 39+11 weapon rest parry. Sure you won't be the king of dps but you will kill things.

5. Bolter Any realm max int and use acuity buffs and wildpower. 2 bolts will kill most casters dead.

6. aoe specialist 46 matter 28 body cabalist aoe dot and aoe disease and nearsight. Spam dot and disease with the dot crit ra. Someone will die. Cave shaman. Mentalist. Rune rm fire wiz, whatever.

7. The duo. Get a buddy and look for solos. It's cheap but it works.

I would love to join 8vs8 but I am no big help agains this groups we are facing nowadays,

1. As an animist you have to handle everything very fast and kite, push and change position perhaps more often, then other caster.
2. BD only using his instant will join a 8 vs 8 group only one time
3. Theuergist: after 1st pets spam, all enemy group will take you as first target and you have to change position and kite and push, change target, choose (right) target more often, then most of caster
4. Shildtank is a peeler and slamer - have to prevent enemy tanks and rupter in own rows and be very quick in that, land positionals, switch weapons... nothing for a plaer who has difficulties with peel, kite, fast actions and movement, don't you think so?
5. nothging to say accept no serious group in mid or hib will make a setup with bolt-caster.
6. Here just funny:

After your first AE DOT you will fly from the group and never be able to join it again. Perhaps no other 8vs 8 group too Even in zerg everyone will ask you don't do such things.

I took him at his word that he was too old for 8 man.

So don't do it.

Small man and zerg works just fine with animist or aoe spec.

I got to 1l5 on my animist by farming mobs in the bg and people died trying to kill me.

RVR has always been a struggle in terms of "roles" or "meta". If you like 8 man pvp, then go for it and try to have fun and don't overcompensate for your age. As long as you have experience with the game and can think clear be structured in stressed out situations you're never too old. Pick a class that you like to play and think about your limitations. If you feel you've got a slow reaction time, don't pick a class that will potentially end up as a main assist in your group. Healing and support is also very unpredictable and relys on your ability to prioritize. It can be an easy task or deadright insanely difficult one. Nukers are usually the easiest, as their job is to prepare the attack, assist the MA, nuke, reposition and repeat the process.

To answer your question, no you're not too old

Get into some thid action. Much slower pace RVR, TONS of fun if thid can get populated

Bump! With stupid crafting times coming in the future, more reason to kick it in thid!
