RvR Realm Task - The Savior of the Casual

The realm tasks have had an IMMEDIATE effect on providing an RvR focused activity for sub lvl 50, fresh lvl 50 but no template, and existing 50s who would otherwise sit in a border keep LFG until they finally log.

There are definitely tweaks to be made, however the general idea has so far had a major impact. There are lots of soloers, small mans, groups, and zergs out and in the RvR zones, moving around, fighting, setting up shop at keeps, etc. Sure there are some people who are just afking in keeps, but the fact that people are IN the RvR zones and moving from border keeps to keeps has been fantastic.

There are plenty of people talking about what changes need to be made with regards to the actual tasks, rewards, etc, but i would just add this little bit of perspective: Error on the side of being generous to the low RRs. Give them too many RPs instead of too little. Give them too much XP instead of too little. The hardcores will be rr5+ no matter what you do, that is a given, but many players struggle to ever find a means of consistent RP gain/progression once they hit lvl 50. People often times spend hours trying to form groups, or running through the frontiers to find someone to fight, without any success. Slowly they stop trying altogether. The alternative is that you provide consistent RP gain for new players and people trying new classes up to rr5. That would be awesome! Populate the realms! Let people get to a place that is somewhat competitive while still having a power gap for the hardcores that will inevitably hit rr10+. Let people make MULTIPLE classes instead of feeling obligated to focus everything on one class just to be competitive.

The new system definitely has its flaws, but so far the general effect has been great. Thank you for your implementation , and please consider erroring on the side of the casuals in this one. We want population months/years after release!

I'm not sure how sitting at a keep waiting for a timer is great. Nothing wrong with giving options to those without fixed set groups but it has completely destroyed the rvr dynamic. It also heavily favors population which isn't a good thing.

It needs a major tweak so that it enhances the rvr dynamic not completely change it to a pve grind with occasional inconsequential fighting

.....

I don't agree if you are talking about casuals. The task defending or attacking a keep is only good if you got a group, speed or some stealth. As a casual without the above you have a very poor chance of even getting to the keep.

Just an update to this:

Last night my wife , for the first time EVER, asked me if i wanted to play DAoC and RvR. Up until this point, it has been years of me dragging her around to RvR/8 man/etc. She constantly feels overwhelmed when we get into a group setting, and when we duo she feels a ton of pressure to not mess up. Last night she specifically said something along the lines of "I like this task system, it gives me something to work towards and not worry about whether i am good enough or not".

Our night consisted of us duoing warrior/skald and loving every minute of it. We picked off small mans moving to / from the keep defense/attacks, we got into milegate fights during the emain/odins/hadrians tasks (2v4 win against a group of alb stealthers had her on an emotional high) , we jumped in a couple times when we saw 2-3 fgm moving towards a keep to attack and snaked out a few kills of our own and even got in a keep take. We killed a lot, we died a lot, but the whole night we had a lot of FUN.

I am sure there will be more tweaks to the system going forward, but the general idea has been great and has created an atmosphere that feels rewarding for the time spent (5-10 min runs sometimes just to get to a destination) and really gets people of all types (low/high level, low/high rr, solo, grouped, zerg, etc) out into the RvR zones.

Great job Phoenix devs, you may be onto the system that finally bridges the gap and allows us no-lifers and casuals like my wife to finally fully enjoy the game together.
