New player looking for advice

Hey all, come here from Return of Reckoning. Not played DAOC since EU GOA days many years ago when I played a Sorc.

At this stage in the server, which class is going to have an easier time catching up? Always shied away from hardcore grouping, prefer to follow the zerg and solo roam. Sorc was good fun back on live for exactly this, groups loved me and I could also solo well.

Was thinking about Skald, Minst, SM or an asssassin.

Do sins require weapon switches to apply multiple poisons? That gameplay style massively puts me off.

Thanks!

The Assassin meta is heavy on switching yeah, although with the /switch mechanic here on phoenix, its not very hard to do. Minst has a lot of play styles and will always be needed in BG groups, same as Sorc and Skald. SM maybe not so much , but they are pretty strong soloers.

The catch up mechanics here are pretty quick , you shouldnt have a problem on any BG friendly char. The HIB and ALB bgs right now are pretty big almost every day, with the mids a bit behind, although putting up strong numbers at times.

But really with the ease of leveling, as well as rvr tasks and bonuses you can catch up any character you want fairly quickly. Getting RR5 doesnt take very long.

Levelling up and getting out in RvR is very very fast. Realm rank doesn't really matter in the zerg, most people aren't there to be good, they just want fun and RPs, that being said, catching up is very fast and you should see yourself to RR5 very quickly. Even pretty casual like me, I play weird hours and AFK a lot so don't usually bother grouping.

Simply due to cost, any caster is your best bet for a first 50. Your template won't be any more than 4-5p + SI epic chest from Galla, Sidi or TG, depending on realm and they can be bought from other players for 4p or so (whatever the current cost of feathers are, you need 20k for the chest)
There is lots of scope for more expensive templates, for example an assassin template with all the toys will likely set you back 60, 70 plat plus a bunch of weapons for swapping.

Animists are by far and away the fastest class to level and fastest to farm plat, anyone playing hib should have one and if you enjoy it for RvR then even better! (though animist pve specs don't really work in RvR) Templated and solo mine can farm anywhere between 4-6p an hour depending on luck and how aggressively I farm, once I have salvaged, trinketed and sold everything. Afaik necros are close but not by a lot. I'm not sure what mid do for PVE plat farming...

Once you have a solid money making base then you can roll any class you like, I've been playing properly for less than a year and have 9 100% templated toons, by 100% I mean capped stats/resists/skills without considering weapons on melee toons.

First if all, the GMs did a good job balancing classes (classic).
Every class is somehow viable, eg Thane is quite strong and fun on Phoenix (great for bomb groups too btw). Hunter is playable. Necro is playable in RvR and so on.

Skald / Minst, great as always. They will rarely ask you to join PvE groups tho.

SM, great group PvE char (bomb) therefore also good to farm money. Quite strong solo RvR character.

Assassin, switching is mandatory, templates are expensive.

I would recommend to create a farming char first.
BD, Ani, Necro OR any class (caster preferred) needed in a pbae farming group.
Good to farm with, easy template and mostly viable in RvR.

Have fun.

Thanks really useful, created an Ani to act as a farm char.

What's good for making plat once i get to 50 with it?

Fairies near Innis are pretty reliable, though I tend to farm them on my ranger now for all the metal/crystallised strip salvage.

For the most part yeah, stacks of 10 anywhere from 300-500 depending on the market/level

Grinded up to 1k SC and templated myself out. What tincs do people run on armour/weapon? Read 3 abla 3 heal was best.

Also, is it pretty much mandatory to run Combined Forces, Combined Regen, Abla and Damage Shield pots for solo roaming?

Thanks for all the help so far.

I'd like to know this as well. Thinking solo mins, have him almost rr5 and templated from when I played here about a year ago. Is combined forces + end regen still the basic go-to self buffs for solo?
