Lack of Anti-Zerg Measures

This server is really zergy. DAOC was always pretty zergy. The realm tasks often result in large scale zergs jamming the milegates. One of the counters to these zerg tactics is PBAE. The PBAE Realm Abilities on Phoenix are very weak compared to how they existed back during Classic/SI. If the server is going to be so zergy, the why not make these RAs powerful again.

Realm abilities like detonation trap is pretty useless, especially considering its 30 RA point cost. Volcanic Pillar, which was the most powerful zerg killing RA has been nerfed badly here. The old Volcanic Pillar cost 14 points, instant cast, and did 750 damage. On this server it costs 30 RA points, does 600 damage, and has a cast time. There is a reason nobody gets this RAs, because they are not good here. The whole purpose of these RAs was to force zergs to split and not bunch up. There is little reason not to just zerg in realm tasks, since you can do so with little risk or punishment. Bringing back the power of PBAE at least make the zergers think twice about jamming milegates by the hundred.

Imho it's not so easy.

Realm tasks serve as a focus for the popultaion, which makes a lot of sense if the pop is low. It also almost guarantees even casual players that don't form a group some RPs. Gone are the times when the Alb zerg sat at the milegate and every playewr hoped to leech a handful RPs off the incoming elite groups before they die.

Finally PBAoE was only strong against the really really casual unorganized zerg of mainly PvE players back in the days. As soon as the average RR went up and even the average player was RR5+ PBAoE lost a lot of it's anti zerg potential. Volcanic Pillar was OP, you can not counter any problem you perceive with the game by introducing an OP ability that will cause all kinds of problems otherwise.

Long story short, it is too early to tell what to do about RP task zergs. The RPs gained are attractive for the poeple that are not yet anywhere near RR6+ and for the rest they seem to be good enough. Maybe it takes some time till enogh people are tired and start to ignore the tasks in favor of some keep raing or something.

8v8 isn't the only way to play here, and this is by design. What you're seeing isn't an oversight.

Imho the zergs will diminish as people get higher rank. Once the rewards dips below 1k because of realm rank, people will start doing other stuff.


Or they will level alts and get those to rr4 by zerging the realm task area. :p

The only true anti-zerg measure is to know where the zerg is at all times so you can avoid it.

Right now, the tasks are meant that the zergs are attracted to sticking to the task zone, which is what we need. THis allows other groups to be able to roam other zones with very little chance of running into a zerg.

Don't go to the zones where the tasks are? It seems like the zergs are only there.

play an assassin, sit at mile gate and wait for other solos.....problem solved.

Keep in mind, people go where they find fights, if youre not there because youre on here defias saying what people should do, youre doing more harm than good

lol. As someone who solos a lot on a stealther.
If there is a Task in Emain.
Odins is a ghost town.
If it's Odins, emain is likely a ghost town.

The only "Opportunity" here is that you can get a free run to gank the xpers at the main keeps (SF/DC/DL) but as far as the solo action avoiding zerg... not true.

If you want ANY action, you go to the task zone.
Otherwise you just bleed out gold from wasting your charges/potions.

My suggestion:

Give speedwarp to one or two classes per realm, doesnt even have to be on casters imo.

Give them a 30 second or so duration so they wont stay behind and be annoying for too long.
