Can someone quickly summarize "The Art of Peeling"?

So I'm a noob. But I love tanking in DAOC.

As far as I understand, peeling is like tanking in RVR, right?

A Tank's job is to protect their healers/casters from attackers by snaring them with a weapon style and then moving onto another target and repeat?

I'm assuming if you continue to attack the snared target, you'll break the snare, correct?

So shield slamming and snaring people who get close to healers and casters is the name of the game?

Generally yes. If you are super pro you can switch guard around as you're doing it. For example 2 melee might be beating on your caster, so you guard them while you slam and snare those tanks. Use the fastest (exceptional buckler) shield for slamming and similarly you want a fast weapon to snare so you can move on or repeat if you miss/blocked/etc. Figure out which snares are easiest to use and last the longest (some have different snare amounts, not sure if your class's snares will vary though).

Basically yes

Although you can attack the snared target if you use a style that snares again (but any damage will break the snare, so be mindful of your style that proc bleed)

The point is that melee snares don't give any immunity, so you can snare to death someone if you want
You can't snare someone that has root immunity though (so if someone rooted your target before, you won't be able to snare it)

So you have to snare a lot, slam dangerous target, while avoiding getting slammed / snared yourself

If a melee end up on one of your caster / support, you can try to peel but some melee classes may peel their target aswell so your mate won't be able to escape. If the enemy is immun stun, your last resort is to either guard your friend to reduce damage and maybe block a snare for them, or try to kill it with the help of your group

Keep in mind that the slam doesn't have any bonus to hit and that some melee will have a good defense against your attacks, especially if they are facing you
Savages are really hard to slam for example (360 dodge + self buff 25% dodge + sometimes a bt)

That is pretty much it. Be patient, watch the fight, and communicate. If your not hitting something as the peeler that does not necessarily mean you are doing something wrong. A lot of players that start with tanks keep the camera angle from the back and high, almost top down sometimes, for positional styles. That is a hard habit to break and makes doing anything other than assisting really difficult. Find a comfortable way to manipulate your camera while fighting and use that to be aware of where you are in relation to the rest of your group and the bad guys.

Watch for them to purge your slam and try to keep track of the order you slammed them just in case the fight lasts long enough for the immunity to go away. Once the stun wears off or is purged the only way you can control them is with your snare. Hit them with it once and move. Any damage they take will break the snare. If for some reason you cannot peel them off your buddy, use guard, intercept, and engage if possible. A lot of players throw guard up like protect or a buff and that is where it stays. Getting used to using it on the fly and dropping it when it is not needed is easier, for me anyhow. If I do it right, I do not run into the situation where i accidentally drop guard (if my guard was already up on that player) , i am guarding the wrong player, or where someone else is trying to guard a player that my guard is already on.
