Bleeds...why use them?

Besides the added damage after the initial hit, is there reasons to use(or not use) bleed styles?

I have chains with bleeds that do same damage after the bleed as another chain or two anytime.

It stops health regen (and keep you in combat? ) but it also breaks mezz and root. Personally I would use bleeding styles if you are solo and do not need to cc your enemy and strictly avoid it in group rvr.

Edit: Dont get me wrong, ofc you cant it avoid every time in group play. BMs side chain (most damage) got bleeding so you have to use it if you assist your target but if you just want to rupt targets which probably needed to be cc'd as skald (or similar) then stay with your snare and dont use axe styles ... something like that

There is indeed a lot of overlap with the bleed styles. Depending on what class you play that's partially due to the styles reworked here for phoenix making them all usable for the class, instead of say a parry reactive with a bleed for an evade class with no access to parry spec.

Personally I think every bleed style should be its own DoT, and multiple styles with bleeds would stack on a target which could potentially turn into some serious damage.

Or make bleeds un-purgable, which would keep a player in combat and put a damper on the ridiculous number of self-heals available here. Just a couple thoughts for increasing their value over what is now nothing more than a slight nuisance.

I gotta agree with Azrael here tho, bleeds are a no-no for group action due to the CC breakage.

Both sound good, together even
