I feel stupid asking this question

I haven't played DAoC since the original release, and only played for a few months. I remember the game having an emphasis on grouping, but I also remember soloing a bit. Over the weekend I made an account and decided to goof around in Hibernia to get reacquainted with the game. I watched a few guides and then logged in to go at it.

It took me a while to realize the kill tasks aren't on this server, I thought I was doing something wrong until i checked the forums. No big deal, I just proceeded to find the lowest level mob I could and tried to fight that. The problem is that, at level 1, fighting level 1 mobs (yellow), I die every time. I checked my ability pages and I don't have any (I'm a Blademaster). My training sword is equipped. I stick the mob and then turn on attack. I hit for 2, they hit for 8, I always die. I tried this numerous times on different mobs, both in the starting town, and the one the portal took me to.

Is it possible I'm doing something wrong, or do I need to group from level one since there are no blue mobs at this level?

When I played originally, I played an Albion/Friar, and then later a Midgard/Healer. The former soloed just fine, the latter not so much. But I figured with a Blademaster I'd be able to solo, at least at first. Somebody clue me in please. I'll group if it's required, just wanted to putz around for a bit and decide on a realm before I got real social.

At lvl one you want to kill blues until you get weapon upgrade or level. Any weapon upgrade over training sword will probably allow you to kill a yellow at that point. The training sword is super underpowered compared to the first set of weapons that will drop for you. Shouldn't take long

So there are blue mobs out there somewhere for a level 1 then? I looked all over the noobie areas but couldn't find anything below a yellow. There were lots of purples with various amounts of pluses after the name, but otherwise only yellow, orange, and red mobs.

I'll have to go look around again, maybe I missed something.

I figured out the problem. The purple and blue names look almost identical on my monitor. I didn't notice that some had -'s after them and the rest had +'s. I'm level 3 now, and things are going much better. Thanks for the help.

If it makes you feel better you aren't the only one to have this issue. I have seen it at least twice before.

It does actually, thanks. I was kicking myself for a bit once I figured it out.

My next stupid mistake was forgetting to train after I leveled. Was in a group wondering why I was only hitting for 1 damage on the purple mobs we were fighting. Tried to get a new weapon to fix it, but ended up a few silver short of being able to buy a better one. So I had to think for a minute and realized my mistake. Got dropped from my group during that brain fart (I don't blame them), but ended up duoing with a Bard shortly after that and got to level 8. Was a lot of fun.

keep having fun and dont worry about your mistake

just a quick tip: do not buy anything in this game yet. There are so many random drops, you do not need to buy equip (arrows/throwing weapons to pull are an exception)
