So which blends better with LA better?

Axe. You have an anytimer for haste debuff you can use as the opener vs. stealthers or with 39 axe get a strong side haste debuff vs. tanks.

Well I guess sword than. Has a better to hit chance than axe or LA anytimer and has a side combo with good growth rate. Unless you want to use the LA 3 style chain then it doesn't really matter what weapon.
