Some suggestions from a long time Thane:
Mastery of Focus II will assist in getting your Instants and AoE Hammers to be resisted less.
Ignore Pain is always a good choice.
Mastery of Pain / Wild Power / Dual Threat help you hit harder. It's especially nice when you Slam and whip out your two hander for Conquer, or when you've the opportunity to chain your DDs on someone when you're rooted or otherwise not able to get into melee range.
Static Tempest can help a lot as well.

There is a guide that is very helpful. The information is for Live, and a bit old, but still contains a lot of good tips and suggestions. I am not sure how accurate it will be for Phoenix changes, but it should help you in choosing RAs at the very least -

Came here to ask the same question. Especially.. how important is det9 on a thane? I rushed det 9 abd jeeo getting completely different advice in ingame chat.

Some say det9 is must have for grp rvr, others say its not worth it without stoicism and you should get either purge2+ some det(5/6). Others say get purge 3.

Then people tell me static tempest ist a must have and the next person tells me that static tempest isnt really useful since its only a 2s stun every 5s and people hardly evver get affected by more than one proc.

And others even tell me to rush aug dex after det9 for max cast/block speed for guard and ruptnukes.

Really no clue what I should do. I really like that mezzes mezz me for like 20s max and the ghetto mezzes and stuns only affect me for a couple of seconds and I dont know how purge2+det5/6 would compare. So you instapurge mezz and start rupting right away and then you have some det for follow up mezzes and stuns.

Even met a thane who went purge3 and then full on dmg. Like aug dex, wild power and dual threat. Told me he wants to purge right away and then his nukes to at least do some damage because sometimes you only hit for like 130dmg on full tempted and resi buffed enemies.

And do thanes have that much problem with resists? Noone ever suggested to me to get MoF

Really hard decision for me. Would be nice if someone could help.

Det 9 is definitely worth it even on non-Stoicism classes, especially with the reduced cost. I would indeed go as far as saying it's a must for anything except solo.

Static tempest is amazing to reset stun immunity on tanks, use as an interrupt on rooted casters/support or just as general area denial. Your own support can also peel themselves by running through it. I wouldnt go higher than rank 1 though.

Lw/tireless/serenety/Wild power/MoFocus 1
Det 9
Static 1
Purge 2

That's a good base to start with for group pvp (5L2).

After that, go for caster damage. By this point you should have a pretty good idea in what you want to prioritise yourself.

Thanks for the reply.

I am det5, purge2, static1, lw, tireless atm.

I was det9 before and really miss it, Purge is nice but the cooldown makes it hard to use. Sometimes you purge and exactly at the same time your healer purges and demezzes you or you purge in a 8v8 just for another grp to add 10s later and you just wasted your purge and are now in CC forever in the next fight.

What is your opinion about aug dex? Some people said high aug dex is a must have for better rupt and better block as guard but from my experience my guard doesnt help much anyway if the enemy has 3 melees on my healer . They will just slam me and then delete the support.

And I know it is a bit off topic but I dont want to start another thread.. does this game use dex breakpoints or linear progression for castspeed? Because with breakpoints aug dex9 really isnt worth it in my opinion. So much points you coud use elsewhere.

What is your opinion about that?

Thanes can have a lot of RA builds in my opinion, just depends on the situation you want to build for.

What you always need is ST1, Tireless, LW, Mof2, WP1 (Thanes have no base crit on spells)

This is how I play Thane in grp, I'm peeling for casters with slam and backstyle snare and assisting the MA or if some dps have a good target with spells, there's also situations when it's better to 2h melee on someone, for example casters. And I also get into situations where I have to push deep and interrupt as many targets as I can because our skald is cc'd or is dead, or there's a 2nd grp adding our fight. That's when you go 1h and just swap targets every swing and save dd's for best possible interrupt.

I've been playing with Purge 3 until rr 7L6. But I'm respecing to Det9 + Purge 2/3. I've started to record and review my gameplay, I seem to be stunned a lot by minstrels and hib casters or get rooted by tanglers. So kinda need to start running Det9, you still need purge vs slams.

What I'm going for next is trying to cap or close to cap my 2h swing speed with Mastery of Arms 5 and Aug Quickness 3 with celerity for when you have to dps with 2H. You also want to try cap your 1h without celerity, because there is situations the aug healer is under heavy preasure, so he wont cast celerity because he priority heals. But you still need fast swing speed for interrupts / backstyle snare.

Then I would try work on my cast speed with Aug Dex 2, Art 4.

After that you're free to pick whatever you feel like you need.
AoM 5 if you feel like you're dying a lot to casters
MoB3-5 if you're facing a lot of melee trains, MoB5 with Guard is really good. you just follow the enemy melee train and swap guard.
More WP and MoPain for DMG
MoC for oh shit situations, when you need mass interrupt and your pac is busy or bad.

I still have to do more tests, but it feels like WP is increasing your dmg a lot more, than MoM or AA, because here you have no toa stats that would make the scaling better. I would probably get WP5 before thinking about MoM or AA
