Since the pet nerf, are these classes still in good spots? Which one has the advantage if there is one?

Both are perfectly fine still. As far as the advantage question, that is unanswerable with the information you provided.
With no critera you're basically asking " which is better a jeep or a race car? We need to know what you intend to do wirh it before we're able to say which has the advantage.

Over the weekend, I watched a few other SMs out in OF and noticed they aren't using their debuffs.
If your speced 47 dark 25+ sup, you have 5 insta debuffs to use. Use them all on melee and at least d/q & dex for casters.

Speaking mainly for 8men rvr ; Bd is good in tank grps, like full tank 1bd is decent. Sm is only good with an rc rm in grp that can debuff cold for it. Most pug grps are tank on mid so you'd have better chances getting into a grp with BD

My SM is Paprica. I use the instant debuffs but don’t find myself using the ones I need to cast. Also I need to respec again because I went 50 dark and rest sup, only need to go 47 dark for better debuffs in sup.
Ya, I am talking about the insta ones, the casted ones are resist debuffs, which are useless solo because you cannot debuff your magic type.
