The snare gives 10% chance to snare

Then 1 second later the pet hits mob and breaks snare or

mobs hits dmg shield and breaks snare.

Help me out here?

yeah it's pretty bad, looks like its a skill from a bygone age... like how the Friar gets str on leveling

It is an old and pointless ability. It should definitely be changed or improved. So should most of the pet lines.

The tricky thing with making pet lines strong is that no RP share is currently awarded for damaging or killing a player's pet once they die. So very strong pets become a gameplay and "anti fun" issue. They can be re-summoned and do a serious amount of damage with no risk to the summoner and no reward for enemies.

This is one of the things Mythic eventually got right, but it took them a while. They added RP share for damaging/killing most pets and then (over) buffed pet lines.

It's for kiting an enemy that is chasing you.

Enemy on you, pet on enemy gives you some breathing room to get away or get a cast off. With the hope that the pet attacking keeps applying the snare.

If the pets hits dude, snare will break in 1-2 seconds. Snare, proc, pet hits, break snare.

Useless. I think it should be maybe same duration as stunfrom other pets and unbreakable, possibly just a little longer as pet stun is better than snare. Also sm pet in summon line pretty much always has a dmg shield on it. So if you hit pet u break snare if your pet hits u it breaks snare, etc.

As implemented, completely useless.

It's not completely useless. As Heard said, it's for gaining distance on someone attacking you. If your pet hits and successfully snares the enemy, you have to manage your pet and pull him of attack mode. You don't have to blindly let him attack and break snare. It's the same idea as a melee dps who can snare enemies. After you snare, you can pull off and let your target stay snared while you get away or move to another target.

As for the damage shield also breaking the snare, yeah that is a problem in RvR but it's more a problem with damage shields in general. Not a specific pet line. Some abilities are situational and not meant to be used at all times.

For instance, in pve groups with a main tank, it's not bad to cast damage shield on the tank to let him hold aggro easier. Obviously, if you are root or snare cc'ing targets, then it's bad.

Isn't the lowest level buff have a really high proc rate? It's not supposed to be guaranteed, but enough to apply every swing or 2
