Skald questions - Phoenix Freeshard

I normally play hib, but a friend is going to give the game a try and he loves Vikings so I told him if he started on Mid I would join him for awhile and help him level up. I am not an expert on Mid in any way so a few questions:

1) Should I recommend a race for him or does it matter? Fighting skalds I see to have the most issues with trolls but not sure if that is coincidence or not.

2) If I remember right, hammer is the best weapon for them so will help him with that unless otherwise recommended? I am also guessing 2h hammer right?

3) With him playing a skald what would be a good duo class to level up with him? I was thinking shaman but maybe another melee? Caster?

1) Trolls hit hardest in melee, so they are the best race for skalds. OTOH, female dwarfs are aesthetically pleasing and male dwarfs can wear an eyepatch with a massive beard, so objectively dwarfs are better.
2) Hammer styles tend to use less endu and there is a back style with a snare effect. In RvR that's obviously a need-to-have. As you can respec anytime below 50, you can of course switch weapons whenever you get a great drop or to match damage type to the mobs you are fighting while leveling. Edit: yes, you go 2h. 1h/shield would only be sensible when you want to impersonate a healer/shaman, charge at an archer shooting at you or if you want to break a caster's bubble.
3) Shaman will work well and a shaman/skald duo would have no problem finding or building a larger group I think. With tireless, buff potions and rest breaks, just about any duo would work one way or another. Skald + thane might be fun in the battlegrounds, I think.

1, Let him play whatever, it doesnt matter that much. Troll is probably best but i prefer dwarf for the cool looks, high con and extra body resist

2. Hammer is probably best yeah. Remember though that you can respec for free until you hit level 50.

3. This is more complicated. Do you want to run mainly duo or do you want to group more? Do you have ambitions to run in roaming full groups in rvr? I would advice just playing something you think you'd enjoy, so you dont end up dumping your friend

Welcome to Midgard. You will not want to go back.
I like the idea of running a thane or warrior with a skald for duo leveling. You can guard the skald and with the skald heal song between pulls there will be very little down time. Thane makes a great puller too.
