I love the idea of thane but saw a video on youtube of a guy saying they are useless in 8v8 RvR / Better for casual RvRing

What do you guys suggest? Should i just follow my heart and roll thane

Thane is fine for solo or zerg. In 8 man's you would be better going zerker, savage or skald in terms of melee.

It's easy to level on Phoenix so play a Thane and if you don't like it try something else.

I’d suggest a class with some speed
RM is pretty easy to play
Skald is easy after 10

Or think about future
Level a shaman
Unless you are pulling massive numbers of mobs you shouldn’t die
And you have your farming and crafting bot for the rest

Play what interests you. Thane is very fun and not that difficult to play, and as you get better you will be useful in groups. People sleep on thanes, but when played well they are quite good.

Thane is fine. Its a very strong class which you can run solo, so you are not dependant on a 8 man grp.

I think Berserker is really easy too.

If caster, SM or Rune are easy but good.

Go with Thane throw some hammers!

It is not time to 50 that matters, it it time to template that matters :-)

I would like to chime in one one aspect not discussed in this thread: Template cost at level 50. Your character is not finished when you ding, there will be more grind after you ding. Thanes are very expensive to template.

I would recommend leveling a caster. SM (You will always get a bomb grp) or BD (Very nice solo with heal pets) due to templates being really simple to make.

Only "Hard" mid class is a pac healer. If playing a caster learning too kite then ur set! Skald was my first too 50 and rly easy too play, thane is not that Hard either. Either way pick what U wanna play. Cheers & GL

I recommend to choose a class that is:

A. Relatively easy to play
(Do NOT choose: PacHealer, Shadowblade or Skald at the beginning. Pure melee classes would make sense as Berserker, Warrior or Savage.
Most Caster classes should work too.)

B. Cheap / Easy to get templated
(Do NOT choose: Chain wearing hybrid classes as Skald or Thane. Also avoid Shadowblade. Cloth wearing classes are the cheapest and easiest to get a template for.)

C. usefull to farm money / rogs / feathers
(Typically great for solo farming are: Bonedancer and Shaman. Shaman is relatively hard to play for a beginner. Quite everything else is usefull for normal group farming methods.)

D. still usefull for ex. RvR, after you are done with B. and C.
(We don't really have that problem here in Mid/Phoenix. Most classes are somehow viable in RvR.)

My recommendation:
Bonedancer.

Quite easy and forgiving to play in PvE.
Easy and cheap to template.
Great solo lvling class, great solo farming class.
Viable in any kind of RvR situation, solo, small men, full group, also in Zerg fights (Thornweed Field 5 ftw).
You will need some time and training for RvR, but that is the case for most classes.

Good luck and have fun.

Nice summary Nunki!

BD will progress nicely in RVR also. At RR5 you can get PD7, purge2, lw, tireless MoF2. Then it is all damage passives if you are solo/smallman or TWF5 if you zergsurf.
