Midgard Casters

Ive never played midgard at a high level, and when I think of Mid I think melee groups primarily. Do the casters (SM/RM/BD/ Cave sham) have a real role in RvR groups? If so what do each of them typically get used for?

Even though Mid has very good Melee, it's casters also are very good.

Runemasters are the main nukers in the realm and are the most common caster you will find in 8v8 groups. They also do great in zerg formats and somewhat decently in solo due to speed and nearsight. Their main function in 8v8 PVP is nearsight, nuking damage, damage add buff, and pet clearing.

Spiritmasters are fantastic. They excel in PVE with PBAOE damage and pet, and are one of the best solo casters in PVP due to intercepting pet, mezz, root, lifetap, and some other tools. They do not have speed which is its only drawback in solo RvR. They are used in 8v8 but not as much as RMs which have better group options for RvR. Their role in 8v8 is pretty much pure damage and pet clearing.

Bonedancers are also great and a truly unique class. I played a troll BD to almost rr12 on live servers. They are incredible at solo play both in PvE and RvR due to healing pets, instant lifetap, and some other tools. As with the SM, they do not get speed so soloing in RvR will be slower but they have incredible survivability. If played correctly, you can 1vX very well. They aren't as common as an RM in 8v8, but more common than SMs, due to the fact that they are interrupting machines. With 3-4 pets (caster/seer pets) and 2 instas that interrupt on short timers, they can effectively lock down 3-4 healers and casters on the other team. It's an easy class to learn but very difficult to master, and good ones are incredibly valuable in RvR IMO. They need to be wary of pushing too hard in the back line as they are still a caster, but they can interrupt and assist the main damage dealers to be a devastating force.

Cave Shamans will have no place in 8v8 unlike the other 3 mentioned above as DOTs are a big no no in group settings. In zerg warfare or solo, they can really shine though. You have to learn how to be a good kiter in solo, but if performed well, you can 1v1 almost anyone.

Hope that helps!

Mid caster/hybrid setup is pretty nasty if played well at this patch level. Midgard having celerity and strong melee dps leans them towards melee groups, but their casters are also very good. BD is one of, if not the strongest caster in the game due to having a strong nuke, pets and an instant life tap that can all get thrown onto a target for crazy burst.

Only one out of those that you mentioned that isn't really grouped is cave shaman, primarily because they are best as support in groups, but as solo cave shams are great with their disease procs, dots/bolts.

BDs only have access to baseline nukes, just like every other caster. If the BD specs for the higher damage lifetap(123 delve), he won't have any nuker pets that actually do any damage. Even the highest dark nuking pets only hit for about 80 damage, which is laughable.

In my experience playing Alb and Hib I get nuked down faster by Mid Casters than by Casters in any other realm.

@ironicles => Excuse me, i m not a specialist on Midgard caster
But i don t understand when you said "..With 3-4 pets (caster/seer pets) and 2 instas that interrupt on short timers.."
For me , there s only the Lifetap who can interrupt on Instant Timer
Which is the second instant spell you talk about?

Isn't there an instant debuff? Not sure if it rupts tho...

IIRC the debuffs only interrupt if resisted.

I haven’t tested it, but if this is truly 1.65 then the insta body debuff in dark spec line will interrupt even if resisted. Live servers changed it much later on when they introduced better pets patch.

Going full dark (warmages) will nuke for 120-150 each and have a snare component to them, if you do not kill the BD pet or mezz them all this will destroy whomever they are on. You can also debuff your instant body lifetap that typically hits for mid 150s as well. This of course depends on spec, you sound like you are speaking from a paper perspective and not an actual play perspective. I played BD in the early months of this beta before they just started giving everything away and BD is one of the best 1v1, and is considered a core class in 8v8 setup for mid caster group as they provide rupts and damage. I am speaking from actual experience and not theory.

I actually played full dark on my BD. The top caster pets were hitting for 80-90, not 150. All those spec points for an interrupt is a complete waste. You can spec for interrupting pets for a lot less spec points, and can split spec.

You be lucky to kill a blue com mob with caster pets let alone a full resist player. All I seen pets have are resist. Which is why they come in handy in RvR not for nuking damage.

Taken directly from the patch notes:

"Pets should use the higher of their level or owner level for many calculations (resist, miss etc.)".

If you're seeing so many resists that you struggle with a blue con mob, something is broken and needs to be reported as a bug. DD+Snare should have a 12.5% resist rate, if I'm not mistaken.

The caster pets would be lower level than the blue con mob .

Dude, he already quoted it for you: "Pets should use the higher of their level or owner level for many calculations (resist, miss etc.)"

The HIGHER, so summoned pets will always use their summoners level (or at least should)
