Landing one style against an enemy with Evade VII is far more likely than landing two in a row.

Whirling spear has higher defense than engage.
Engage has medium defense penalty, Whirling Spear has Low defense penalty.

That just helps with flat out miss rate, doesn’t effect your evade rate against the target after landing the style
