Hunter spec question (sword)

Archers are in a tough spot this patch, I am normally a ranger but with melee not feeling so great, the instant pet is pretty attractive for a sniper spec. My question is about sword, the hunters evade chances, and the 39 off evade stun-- is it viable? I am not confident on landing the rear spear stun (I struggled with the ranger side stun at times) .. I'd take 45 bow, 39 sword, 37 stealth (35 @ rr5) and 32 BC (35 @ rr5 for nice insect pets in frontier). Is this just stupid expecting a Norse sword Hunter to get the evade stun off? It feels unviable but I didn't get to test much over the holidays.

It seems like a lot of the specs for archers have changed to be high melee specs. If you search the forums, there are 44 spear/sword and 50 spear/sword specs.

dont spec more than 35 into bow and go full melee otherwise you will waste alot of specpoints

In beta I tested bow damage... was like 20 different from 40 bow to 50bow.. def not worth the points

In melee Hunters suffer more per miss than Rangers and Scouts do. Conversely in melee Hunters gain more per hit than Rangers and Scouts do.

Here's what I learned from testing a similarly specced Hunter during beta (including the PvP event).
1) Archery damage is the same between all three classes. The only downside to Hunter Archery is that they won't have as big crit shots as Rangers and Scouts. However they can hit the cap speed with Midgard's slowest bows and Rapid Fire. Rangers and Scouts have to swap bows to make this happen. Important vs Casters. Hunter range is only 100 units less than a Ranger and 200 less than a Scout.

2) Hunter 2h damage is the same DPS as a Ranger dual wielding. The only difference is that higher PF specs put the Ranger ahead in melee damage. HOWEVER the Hunter pet makes up this difference and then some. Ranger Damage Add at 36 Pathfinding is approximately 15-20 per hit for a single weapon swing, and approximately 25-30 for a dual swing (all dependent on weapon delay of either weapon and quickness/haste). The Pet hits for about 50-60 damage per hit, so this outpaces Pathfinding quite easily. Advantage goes to the Hunter. However I did not test the damage per second of the pet to confirm that the pet is hitting as often as a Ranger swinging a weapon. What I can tell you is that targets dropped much faster for the Melee Hunter than for the Melee Ranger. Downside to the Melee Hunter is less procs due to a) delay of 2hander and b) no dual wielding. That's pretty much it.

I will also add that you can run 1h with shield then switch to 2h for ragnark.. If I went sword I've spear def worth it to go 50

I found dorf sword hunters to be as viable as any stealther I'd tested in i50. Those include ranger, nightshade, and shadowblade, as I don't play albion.

Thanks guys, I'll do 50 sword and try to keep bow at 50 comp. as RR goes up, I can free up points for BC.

i suggest you test dmg difference yourself to believe... it is absolutely not nessesary to go comp 50 bow.... imo everything over 27 bow is wasted
