I'm about to hit 50 with my Champion. So far I have seen one group that was not PBAOE based. It's nice enough when you can snag the coveted puller spot, but it's a little boring that you can't really experience the game the way it is meant to be played - with all classes having some kind of a role. Is the grouping experience different in Midgard?
My particular luck has been amazing in Mid but I will not say we don't have our share of elitists, but I moved from Hib because I got tired of everyone only wanting the perfect class to fill in the last spot of a group.
If you like Champs, you might want to try out the thane on Mid. I am currently having a blast with it. Good nukes, decent AoE, Insta DD, Insta PBAoE, can easily get 42 in shield for slam and sill have 44 in hammer or any other weapon. Fun as hell and I am having a blast with mine.
Well there are basically 2 different "ideal" mid groups...
1: Old fashioned Bomb group. We do it like the other realms but instead of verd tank we use anyone to pull and when mobs arrive the pachealer AoE stuns and the bomber stun. The good ones I have been in that make it easy is 2healers/1shaman/1RM w PBT/2 SM/2 shield - BUT if your group is smart and well geared and skilled right and you want super fast kills you could get away with 1 healer and no shields and just fill those slots with AoE/PBAoE. I personally never go for max damage like this and usually try to get as many shields as PBAoE.
2: The other is more difficult as for perfect, but doing Aug healer/Shaman/Skald/2 Shields/3 DPS (Savage/Zerker) which I have been told is almost as fast at killing.
I prefer a good combo and I have never had issues lvling.
Wife and I had an easy time in Hibernia leveling our Enchanter/Mentalist to 50 super fast, but then we went with non-perfect-for-Bomb-group characters, and would never get invites, or straight up be ignored if I messaged someone.
Midgard, because of its focus on Melee-over-Magic playstyles, can certainly field perfect bomb groups, but for the most part the only absolutely required class for most groups is either a Healer, Shaman, or both. We leveled a Thane/Berserker combo together with a mix of duo'ing for XP items, grouping for XP-Bonus mobs, and RvR Tasks. It wasn't as fast as Hibernia, but it was certainly more fun. That suited us just fine, because Midgard was our home on Live for the longest time, and playing Hib was just a 'eh, why not?' kind of decision.
Stealthers still get a bit of overlooking, but that's an issue on all realms.
Just join Mordred. We'll get'ya invited to something. Might lose more with sub-optimal groups, but who cares, end of the day it's about folks having fun. If nothing else we got the numbers of have something going on at about any hour of the day. Be it RvR/PvE or just BS'ing in Discord it's a rather laid back place.
If you're going to stick with Hibernia, I'd recommend you look into joining Gold & Ale. That was the guild the wife and I were in, and they're good folks in a good alliance. If you come over to Midgard, look up Crows of Winter, that's our current guild, and we love it.
