Hi all! Super excited for the start of the server. I will be playing a warden to support my friends from back in the daoc days while we level. What should I focus on spec'ing into first? I need to be able to support them but also may need to solo occasionally even if its very slow.
I'm likely going to go with this build at the start to supply 6s blade turn, backup heals, and some peeling/slow support. It's subject to change but it's a support build I like. Just going to keep Nurture up with level until it hits 45, Blades and Regrowth will more or less get points every other level or so with a spare point early on just to get Parry active.
Regrowth - 26 for Major Resuscitation 219 heal. Nurture - 45 for the 6s BT. Blades - 39 for the 30% haste debuff that lasts for 20 seconds (Followup to anytime style Fireblade @level 18) Parry - 10 for whatever is leftover.
Bare minimums for a warden are 6 blades for taunt (usually 10 for side snare), 12 regrowth for endurance cost reduction (at 22 regrowth for the second reduction, one can permasprint with end3 pots and without the self end chant, LW, or tireless), and 45 nurture for the 6s bladeturn pulse. (Because of custom immunity to bladeturn dynamics, running multiple wardens and stacking their BT chants requires split-second timing and isn't practical.)
For leveling, it's an early goal to get 6 blades, 12 regrowth, and nurture to level, but in what order you do these is a personal taste. If you do nurture first, you get a damage-add chant at 5, 9, and 14, which can keep your damage output reasonable until you can get your blade spec up. If you're not using styles in combat, then the end reduction isn't a thing for a while. If you run the level 2 regrowth end4 chant, you can use styles with some impunity, but you'll have to twist it with the damage add chant, and casting the chants do themselves take some endurance and can wipe out the gains from the end4 chant.
I've done these in multiple orders, and I don't have a feel for which is best. I do expect in any case to have the basics down by level 15-20. After that, it's more regrowth for better heals or more blades for better damage.
Above 45 nurture has one more damage-add chant at 46, then more group resists at 48 and 49; these could be vital or trivial to you.
The selfish warden: 22 regrowth (or 12, with more blades / parry) 46 nurture 39 blades 14 parry
I'm going with the first, for I am a selfish bast...mmm I mean, the 39 blades combo is also good for support your party .... Oh for me the spec at 50 is 47 nurture for the red haste, 11 Parry
I found slightly marginally better variance on the baseline group heal to be as good as anything else I could do with those points (3 points of blades and/or 3-8 points of parry), but feel free to put them elsewhere.
I was a ML10 Battle Warden back in the day, and even with 39-ish Blades my damage was disappointing (that's the Naturalist damage table for you). So this time around, I'm going the Support Warden route with 49 Nurture 42 Regrowth 10 Parry 8 Blunt. My job is to run chants, do base buffs & resists, be a backup healer and a peeler with Taunt style. I enjoy the utility of the class, but it is a jack of all trades, master of none. Red PBT is why groups invite you.
Sadly Warden at this patch level will never be like my beloved ToA, Battlemaster Warden. I appear to be in the minority of players who think that Warden needs to at least have shield spec, and 1.8x points. That being said, I recommend high Nurture, like everyone else. I always liked having higher regrowth as well though, and just going 10 blades for the side snare, as your damage will be pretty depressing even at 39 blades. Your damage add will help a lot at low levels, and most groups are happy to have a warden, so you shouldn't worry about your damage all that much. If you do want to go high weapon spec, then lower regrowth down to 22, and spec up your weapon to the desired amount. Probably don't want less than 46 nurture for just about any reason though.
