Just looking for info on any must have gear for my hero. Galla bp is on my list. Other than that I'm clueless. Any suggestion's appreciated.

I would save up for the Primal Spore Covered Chestplate. Value is quite high, since MP crafted chests are a costly alternative, and its heal proc is the best available at 180 hp. Crafted tinctures using phoenix ash are only 100 hp. I suggest joining two Galladoria raids - each raid should provide about 10k feathers. You'll need 20k, plus the kill credit from Galla. Other armor pieces can be crafted and have the epic 150 value ablative proc tincture applied.

Complete your SI quest for the Paidrean Necklace, which has 80 utility. This is available for all classes, and I would recommend it for everyone.

Keep your epic chestpiece in your bag and use the spec AF charge in RvR. It's free after killing the Green Maw. Pick up the epic quest at level 50 in Caille, south of Druim Cain.

Save up more feathers for Anurigunda's Blunt Enchantment Bracer (10k feathers), requiring completion of the Fomor Stronghold raid, or one of the other +75 Str/Con items from this list. If you only do Galla, I suggest Ancient Spore Cluster's Cloak (15k feathers). These are luxury items that probably won't fit into a hero template, but the charge is excellent to have available. Alternate between that and spec AF charge as your cooldown timer allows.

That's about it. Some of the spears look fantastic, but they have con or hit points on them, which is a problem when switching between spear and a 1h weapon/shield - your hit points will drop every time you switch. Most are quicker in speed too, whereas the crafted Arcanite Exceptional Battle Spear is slow at 5.6 - my preference for huge hits. Appearance can be modified at the Effect and Reskin merchants, in exchange for Bounty Points from RvR.

Oh, and if you use 1h piercing for whatever reason, I suggest the Broodmother's Fang. Slowest 4.2 speed piercer, with DoT. That's my favored proc on any 1h weapon. Blade and blunt have craftable 4.2 speed weapons available, however - the spiked mace and weighted long sword. DoT tincture is also easily applied by an alchemist.

Dont know specifics, but just get as many buff and debuff charges as you can be bothered farming for and can fit into your template. Even very situational stuff can be useful from time to time.

I would advice against using DOT procs though, as they basically give whomever it procs on CC immunity for the duration of the DOT.

DoT proc on a 1h weapon can be selectively applied, since a hero should be using spear or LW for most hits. I would advise DD proc on that. If you're paranoid about breaking CC or plan on functioning as a guard bot, then yes, avoid the DoT, but it's advantageous otherwise.

I would still argue against it for a couple of reasons

1) If you want to deal more damage, swinging with your 1h is not a good idea anyways. You'd deal more damage going straight to 2h.
2) If you dont kill the target, lets sey you have to switch to another one after the DOT lands, your previous target will be CC immune
3) You generally use your 1h to peel for groupmembers for the faster attack speed and so you can also guard them at the same time. Accidentally landing a DOT will break the snare AND make them CC immune.
4) Assuming you are the peeler, you will want to switch targets a lot and try to keep as many enemy tanks as possible permanently snared, landing a DOT, well you get it at this point.

Preferably you want some sort of debuff that doesnt deal damage on your 1h, alternatively a defensive proc/self buff.

I would only run DOT procs in a solo build.

Right, guard bot suggestions. Go ahead and skip the DoT proc if 1h/shield is your primary modus operandi. You will inevitably misapply it.

For everyone else, DoT equalizes the damage difference of swinging your 1h weapon, which I would only do for blades' anytime attack speed debuff chain. This sort of soft peeling is done on targets that typically already have CC immunity (which won't expire until after the DoT does) or in melee slugfests where better targets are absent or unreachable (meaning they're the target until they die). If you're trying to peel, you should be using your spear's back style. In most cases, that's a better choice than wasting time repositioning for a 1h side snare that's likelier to miss or be met by a block/evade/parry. Slam and immediately switch.
