New player questions - Hero

Hi,

Haven't played DAOC in forever (like 10 years) and don't remember much of anything. Any help with the following is greatly appreciated:

I'm currently leaning towards Hero, but have no idea how to build one both for leveling and then for RvR. Also what race(s) are best for a RvR hero? I don't know anyone here, so will probably have to do my fair share of solo leveling.

Thank you!

In my opinion and from my experience (I played a Celt spearo from release), make it a Firbolg, level up with your weapon of choice and shield maxed, throw in parry when you can. At level 50, spec some iteration of 50LW or spear (I prefer spear still) and 42 shield. I think you have enough points left for 34 weapon and 12 or so parry. That's a pretty typical group rvr spec.

Remember that you can respec for free on this server until you hit level 50.

If you know you will be solo for a while, maybe grinding XP items or something along those lines, go max LW or spear and parry.

Groups will expect you to be shield speced and be able to guard casters, so respec to full 1h/shield whenever you find a grp.

Firbolg and Celt are both good options, go with whatever you feel comfortable with.

This is how I would do it. Firbolg hits noticeably harder, downtime is considerably lower with 1h/shield leveling, and spear (my preference) or LW should be maxed at 50. 42 shield is mandatory for slam, then decide how much of blades or blunt you're willing to sacrifice for parry. 34 blades/20 parry, 39 blades/6 parry, or something in between.

39 blades grants access to the anytime attack speed debuff chain, which is helpful at neutralizing melee opponents, but it isn't a class-defining style. Weigh that against +7% parry chance; something highly beneficial in face to face fights and PvE, though unnecessary for your role in group RvR. Also note that 34 weapon spec will have damage variance until RR6, when composite 50 is obtainable (+5 from RR, +11 from items).
