I need help choosing between Mentalist and Enchanter

This would essentially be my first character on Hib, so I'm looking for a class that's decent at farming/soloing.

I'm also looking for a generally easy class, as I'm casual as hell, but I'm not totally useless.

I'm also looking for a decent RVR class, with a fairly straightforward role.

Also, a class that can PVE farm with its RVR spec would be cool.

I've narrowed it down to Mentalist and Enchanter. Both seem awesome.

I've seen people say Mentalist is harder to play compared to Enchanter?

Help a brother out? Thanks

tough choice, and it seems you are already informed quite well

Before reading the second half of your post i was thinking that Ench is probably easier...especially in RvR, but that is just my gut feeling with 10-15year old knowledge

I'm also curious to know why a Mentalist is harder to play than an Enchanter.

Demez and nuking seems pretty straightforward, am I missing something?

I think enchanter is comparatively more difficult. The enchanter's job is to debuff for the heat train. You need to be able to pick the right targets to debuff at the right time. Ment is easier- he only needs to /assist the enchanter, know how to work the "pet purge" and demezz when needed.

Enchanter is more difficult in rvr, because of the grp is vaguely competent will ask you to be the main assist with debuff, meaning that you will be responsible for picking the right target at the right moment, and this needs skill (for instance, I consider myself a good player but I definitely can’t MA).
The mentalist in good rvr grps is comparatively easier because your main task is to assist with dd and demezz.
Of course, the menta has more abilities that can be game changers if played 100% and make it more complex than this (static tempest, pet, heals), but imho it is still easier for the average player than being a MA.

For pve: chanter will exp faster because u need more bombs than menta in grp, and you can use the same spec for pve and rvr

Both classes can ding level 50 really fast joining caster pbaoe/animist groups. ( Ofc enchanter is awesome in xp cause u just sit on animist pet, use pbaoe and you find easier group cause there can be up to three pbaoe in a good pve grp ) [ Setup pve : Animist, druid, warden, bard, mentalist, ench, eld + Ench/Eld is maybe the best]
RVR ( 3 pros 3 cons for each of them)
Enchanter pros: 1. Speed for soloing, 2. Needed one in any caster grp ( Resist debuff)) 3. snaring pet OP
Enchanter cons: 1. Being main assist you can't be a casual player in a group because you need good feeling with other casters to call the assist when other casters are ready and able to assist you. 2. No long duration CC ( you can control just with pet snare and stun). 3. No Long range skills.
Mentalist pros: 1. Demez ( a caster demezzing is better than a bard and your pet can demez you if both you and ur bard are mezzed. Guess this is maybe the only Hard thing to do for a mentalist). 2. Heal is good but is not a skilled thing to do. You won't use much heals in fg heal is a skill for soloing/smallman so you don't have to help a pushing bard or tank trying to heal him, thats druid / warden job) 3. Spec DD heat ( do a macro assist and spam dd is what you should do when ur team is fine and target is debuffed , not hard at all and funny)
Mentalist cons: 1. No speed for soloing 2. You need to charm a pet that means need to ask to ur group to go and charm one every time you don't have 3. No Long range skills

Realm abilities : Don't forget that mentalist is good cause of Static Tempest too .

Conclusions
IF you are a leader player who can call ASSIST in voice chat ---> ENCHANTER
If you prefer being a switzerland knife with many usefull skills both for supporting and to do dmg ---> MENTALIST

Being a chanter myself I can guarantee you'll have fun with it, being MA and call target are not as hard as people pretend it to be, most of the time you are in a pug and people don't really listen to you, if a menta or a eld listen to you then it's cool.
With debuff assist train and the zerg/add you will find on Phoenix, no need to choose the right target, the closest to you or the tank who is way over extended will melt in a heart beat. Don't forget to have RAs such as Moart/Dex and Wild Power

Mentalist isn't exactly easier but it is less preassure for sure, not having to be MA. You'll find that some pople are unable to do anything on their own and will try to assist you at all times, rather than doing something useful while you are busy.

That said, whoever isn't MA will ideally have to keep track of the enchanters position, to be in range for nukes when called for.
