Hello all.I used to play DAOC in 2002-2005 as a mana Eld and nowat late 30s ithink i want to play again . I dont think i remember much so it will be a difficult start. You think i should stick with a caster again or play something else ( maybe an easier class) ? thanks in advance
Eldritches are pretty diverse as how they're played, I'd say they're pretty dang easy in pve.
In RvR you have 3 viable routes. Void is probably debateable... but I've seen it work before, Void is alot of fun in stand offs between large groups, they play like snipers. Mana is a power level machine and great at keep defense, they like to bomb keep doors. The most common and desired are light which have to nearsight... which is one of the harder tasks I'd say casters have as roles in DAoC. If you could explain better what you're wanting to do I could help more...that's my eldritch rant.
thanks a lot for your answer. im interested more for rvr but as i said before its almost like starting a new game. so to learn the game again and be comfortable with a few things i think its better to start with an easy class and then i can deside wich is better for me. Thats why i ask for any proposales
So easiest classes to learn the game I feel(and no offense to MDPS lovers), especially in RvR terms would be the light melee classes. Mercenary, Blademaster, and Berserkers...with berserkers being the easiest. They're basically in charge of simply killing, you just need to learn positioning...they're not really expected of much else. Berserkers are considered easiest because they don't have shield so that's one less thing they have to mess with in the moment. As a melee dps you just find the squishiest individual or just assist your main melee train, I think you're also expected a lot of the times to have a shield as an option for slamming but the heavy tank is more demanded of that most of the time.
Heavy melees usually peel so they're a bit more random in how they're going to act in a fight. Hybrid classes have a lot more utility so things are going to change a lot depending on the situation. Casters have to kite on top of whichever they're role falls in to (Debuffing, nearsighting, mezzing, nuking.) Healers have to kite and manage their power pools...pick who the most important target to heal is and make sure buffs are applied.
The stealthier classes are in a league of their own, really great if your schedule is all over the place and like to solo...they rarely get in to large groups, some times small stealthier groups exist and can be a lot of fun, but there are a lot of variables with stealthers.
Again...not a knock on Melee DPS lovers, as I have a lot of DAoC hours under my belt as one but they have the least to worry about in RvR in general. Hope that answers your question.
I might suggest a mentalist. You are always wanted in XP groups so that will not only get you settled with your first toon but make friends. You will be as much support as DPS. Stick to mana to level. It's a really fun caster in my opinion.
