Guide to Solo Levelling a Warden

I've been having a blast solo levelling a warden recently, and I thought I'd write up how I'm doing it so others can try it. It involves little to no downtime, leading to a delightfully frantic pace.

When asked how to level a warden, people typically say to max nurture. Solo levelling is all about how quickly you kill things, and maxing nurture takes a low damage class and makes it even less damaging. Nurture is fantastic for groups, but maxing it doesn't help you kill mobs fast enough to offset your reduced weapon damage. I also see people suggesting only splash of regrowth, which leads to using horribly inefficient base heals and then having to rest to get power back.

Instead, I'm keeping nurture and weapon close together, with regrowth at about half that. I'm not following that blindly; if regrowth or nurture doesn't get me anything for a few levels, I'll bump up weapon earlier and add regrowth/nurture later on, and a few times I've bumped regrowth early to get the next buff or heal. At level 38, I'm at 15 regrowth , 30 nurture, and 31 blunt. That gets me the 14 health regen buff and 15 spec heal from regrowth, second best damage chant and combat speed buff from nurture, while still getting near my level in weapon after equipment bonuses.

Here is my routine:
1. Beat a mob to death
2. Activate Attack Unending immediately after the mob dies (or when I don't need damage chant for the next blow to kill them) to regen stam
3. Heal up with spec heal
4. Get ready to pull, either by running towards the next mob or drawing a shortbow
5. When end tops up, activate damage chant
6. Pull
7. Repeat

I'm pulling high yellows without ever having to sit and rest. By the time I kill the mob, the mana lost to heals and attack unending regens. Low oranges are riskier and lead to a little more time waiting for end to top up, but are still doable at a pretty quick pace. It's rare for my power to drop below 80%, and when it does it's usually because I just refreshed buffs. I'm doing this with Tireless, but if I was having power issues I could easily swap to Serenity 1.

It's worth noting that these fights feel much more dangerous than they actually are. Fights with oranges that start out with the mob having more health than I do and feeling like I'm about to die end with me at 25+% health, and I think that's largely because of the health regen. It's really important to make sure the stam reduction, health regen, and attack speed buffs are up; the odds shift dramatically when they drop.

So that's how I'm levelling a Warden. Hopefully, this makes it a little more fun for anybody else thinking of doing so.

My own warden is currently stalled around 26ish. Nothing wrong with him at all, just a lot of projects going and not much playtime these days, and I've been concentrating on my animist to farm cash for tradeskills.

I certainly agree that the secret is to spec high weapon and lower nurture to compensate. Groups expect PBT, but you can probably quietly get by with a slower pulse, and you probably won't get dropped for lower resist buffs until you're looking at endgame RvR. Nobody seems to care about the damage add chant, really not even you; it just doesn't actually add enough damage to be worth sacrificing anything to get it.

Many of us are still used to respecs being rare and expensive, and if I use the level 20 respec I'm stuck until the level 40 respec. So building a warden for solo play is a new concept we're still getting used to, which is why you'll get plenty of advice about how you should never go over 10 blades. Keep plodding along, and respec, omit, or lie when grouping.

I would say that you actually should try to get away from Attack Unending as quickly as you can. It's an awesome effect, but it being a chant makes it a pain to work into your rotation. With Attack Perpetual (level 22 fatigue reduction BUFF) and just the level 20 END pots (+2 per tick), I can't get my END bar to drop while spamming taunts. Note that I do NOT have tireless -- early realm points are going toward serenity on him. This configuration will allow permasprint stacked on top of the run buff with level 30 END pots or tireless, allow perpetual use of the (albiet dismal) damage chant and eventually PBT chant, and eliminate the extra power costs to switch chants. Serenity goes a long way toward lowering or eliminating the cost of running the chants.

Eventually, the Combined Regen potion is going to make you completely unstoppable, especially with the stacking health regen self buffs from higher regrowth.

Solid points.

I haven't been using any consumables at all, so Attack Unending is key. There's certainly a lot you can do adding potion in. I got lucky while levelling in OF, and ended up with a few more points to spare, so I got both tireless and serenity.

The dmg chant does add up, but it's not amazing. It amuses me terribly when I pull with the shortbow, and the damage add is between +50-100% of bow damage. Might have to start a ranger since I'm enjoying bow so much. :-p

Update: I'm level 44.4, and chain pulling orange and red fearann wyvern hatchlings and ancients safely. Whenever things get dangerous, BT chant saves me.

I'm using an end 1 pot, tireless, and serenity 1.
