Template preferences?

I've been reading the (gasp!) Uthgard forums for template ideas and it seems that nearly all of them eschew dropped armor from the SI dungeons (which have better procs) in favour of all crafted pieces. Why is that? Opinions please?

Is it because it's easier to put together a solid temp stat-wise? However, you end up with weaker procs on the chest/arms/legs with crafted vs dropped (such as in the case of Sidi/Galla/etc.)

Some SI chest pieces have better procs - if it is in game. Example the minstrel chest piece from Sidi (hauberk of azure notes) is not on the merchants on phoenix and should have a great ablative proc. better than the epic craftable proc. However you lose flexibility on your template when introducing these set pieces. May not be an issue with casters but with high skill cap classes (mins, inf) you have to get the right rogs on jewelry (lots of resists) and then craft around it and it can be limiting to use drops even with high utility. my 2 cents. Mins is worse going from 1 instrument to 2 weapons.

Extra 4 SC-slots + a lot easier to obtain + possibly cheaper ==> People go for 6x SC armour.

For a lot of classes an extra 30~ hp healproc doesn't matter much. For pure solo/stealth it might matter but its quite extreme min/max'ing. With Feathers it might be easier to get them items, but I would generally first make something with 6x SC so you're RvR-ready and are within 95% of max. potential, then, if you want to invest time and such you can go for Sidi/Galla/TG items.

I really don't care much about the procs. They are valuable but they don't make up my template. As long as I cap everything I need of stats, resi, hp, power and ability skill I am good to go. Weapons are a bit different, as I would like it to be as potent as possible.

With 99% qual I get 33.5 imbue points, which is more then enough to max out any class with decent (50+ util) rogs. The only classes that might be a problem, is stealthers. It is cheaper, and much more convenient. The alch procs are nice, and people, my self included, don't want to spend time farming feathers to buy a piece of armor just to get things going when the only benefit is a higher tier of proc.
