Staffless Castertemplate, downsides?

So, i recently saw a lurikeen that looked exactly like a chanterpet and was casting without a staff in his hands...
It caught me offguard the first time because i was looking for the chanter, and "ignored" the "pet" and i tip my hat to that person. Was a fun "huh"-moment for me

I don't play hib but i really like the style of not having to wield a staff for casting, and i could have a bit of fun with the gambling items, wearing them instead of wielding a staff.

The question is, are there really no downsides to doing this? Or will there be combat disadvantages along with it?
Focus is craftable on armor, so it seems like it would be possible without downside.
But before i gimp myself just for the lulz and spend a lot of time and money making a new weaponless temp for my caster, i wanted to ask others.

Come one knowledge gurus, i know you are lurking around here
help me out please

Tl;dr:
When building a castertemplate, is a staff needed for whatever reasons or is a completely weaponless temp with crafted focus feasible?

He should run around with a staff carrying elf champ or blade master

Me and a friend did this first on Thidranki .. Then from there it was a swarm of Ench equal to us .. We put the focus on the armor, so yes, it can be done

Ok thanks for the confirmation

I thought off one downside though, in the meantime: autoattacking is not possible without a weapon....and sometimes that's the extra ruppt you need on someone

Small issue for a caster, but still

Just for anyone reading this and wanting to try it out:

This is getting changed/fixed and will NOT be possible anymore soon.
Focus will only work when it is on a staff

Focus working on anything but staffs was actually unknown. This will be fixed next Saturday, as this affects some templates there will be some announcement beforehand similar to what we did with the other general spell crafting bug last march (https://forum.playphoenix.online/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=6016). The fix itself will simply be that focus is only counted if it is on a staff.

Sucks I thought it was some overlooked feature that existed from the beginning. Why not implement it as
a custom change?

Of all the things that need attention on the server THIS gets addressed?

Glad to see y'all have your priorities in order, ffs.

it's probably a small thing that can get fixed fast and easy...

And it makes sense to tackle the issue NOW when it affects only a few people, instead of waiting until it becomes a problem because it is the new meta. If they change it THEN people would complain: you knew about this for month, there even were threads on the forum about it, yet you did nothing. So why now? After we have spent money on new temps? QQ

you could play weaponless, run without a weapon or even a flower, or a beer cup. But your spells will cost about 50% more to cast. What you COULD do is run without staff and when you're actually fighting you have it on. Reason to do this has micromal perks to it

I used to play Weaponless RC RM in Thid on Live... 2 shotting this and that, worked fine, but if you spam nukes or heals? nah..
