Yesterday I was on my 801 SC making a template for my Mentalist and I blew up attempting a 37/32 OC on an MP item. This did not surprise me in the least, given my skill level. However, I was blown away (ok, poor choice of words) to discover that I lost the MP item !!! I was a LGM SC on live for many years, and clearly remember the happy day in 2007 when patch 1.87 came out and stated that the item would no longer be lost when a SC OC blew up (yes, I know we are on 1.65 not 1.87, but as is well known, we have lots of bells and whistles here that did not exist in 1.65).
After searching for threads on SC overcharges in this forum, I know for sure that (on Phoenix):
1. "SC Overcharge ignores gem quality" (from the 2018W11 Dev Update)
and
2. "The effect of SC skill on the overcharge mechanic has not been changed, you'll still need 1000 SC.", statement by gruenesschaf in https://playphoenix.online/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=105&hilit=overcharge&start=10#p2413
What I have not been able to find is a definitive statement on whether or not there is *any* danger of blowing up once a person is at or above 1000 skill. So basically my question is this: what *exactly* is the "overcharge mechanic" referred to by gruenesschaf in the above thread ? I would appreciate someone pointing me to a thread or other official Phoenix link (or in lieu of that, a definitive statement by gruenesschaf or other dev-type person) that clearly lays out the rules for OC over 1000 skill.
TL;DR: If you are 1000 skill or greater in SC, can you ever blow up on an OC of 5.5 points or less ?
