So would this work?
44 pole (sidi 6.0 slash pole)
42 shield
44 thrust (for the snare)
Will having pole being slash and weapon thrust diminish my damage? Or does the polearm have to match my weapon type dmg ? (i.e. slash pole , 39 slash .
Btw I'm a HO armsman so went crush for leveling now I'm 49 and trying to decide what will be my final spec /weapon type.
Polearm will influence your style dmg bonus with Polearm skills and the top end damage, while the damage-type spec will have an impact on your minimum damage, which will end up varying a lot since you have 0 slash.
Why are you giving up 50 Polearm for 44 thrust by the way?
As a peeler, in rvr, you will most likely be behind enemies going after you casters or healers, so the phalanx + defender's aegis back combo will work just as fine as the tranquillize + wyvernfang one, even more so if you simply stun the target beforehand (with slam).
And if you are not behind them you can, again, stun them with slam and do the back combo, or if stun immune switch to Polearm and use the anytime snare crippling blow and apply a longer snare after (provided no one else applied snare immunity by using roots).
Polearm has probably the very best tools ingame for a peeler, you only need slash or thrust mostly, if not exclusively, to "stabilize" (as in, reduce the variance of) your lower end damage.
As for the spec I think the most common one at rr1 is the usual 50 pole, 42 shield, 39 whatever damage type spec, left overs in parry.
It's also worth considering, but only for the sake of equip templating, that later on, at high RRs, you will probably want to go for a split spec by training 2 different damage type specs to exploit different armors vulnerabilities, while keeping 50 pole and 42 shield.
