How are they at this patch level? Are they worth playing?

I leveled one to 25 ish. No snare no heal on smites. Pbaoe mez on timer.

Dmg was expensive in terms of power and there is a lot of downtime.

That being said it can be done.

They are going to pretty damn bad.

Smite is extremely low damage at this point and you don’t get access to spell crit. Their mana usage will probably be brutal.

Im sure you can have some success with it if it’s something that interests you and you’re not looking to 8v8, but it is going to be a hard road.

I have tested leveling many classes, and smite cleric was horrid here.

That being said cleric is easy. And you get respecs.

The leftover points are not useless spent into smite though. Helping your sorc to kill a overextended tank has a lot of value. I spec my cleric to 40 enh 33 heal 14 smite nukes at rr4 are around 200ish dmg. Very mana intense. But worth it if it means a kill that doesnt happen otherwise.

This, in my opinion, is the best 'Smite' Cleric spec. If you like to smite, consider grouping up smallman with a sorc/minst or whatever. You'll get plenty of opportunities to finish or assist on kills that you don't have time for in 8v8. Ocasionally you will have the opportunity to bust off a couple smite casts in fg fights, but often that time is better spent repositioning, curing groupmates, and most importantly healing. Generally smiting only when your grp is finishing off the last of the enemy... If you had planned to solo with a high Smite spec, I think you would be seriously disappointed. The RA selection here really doesn't augment that playstyle, and the long timer on your unreliable PBAOE mezz is a killer. When that is not up, or when it often gets resisted, even purged, you're very screwed. Stealthers and pet classes will generally dominate you with ease, and any class that can interrupt proficiently like skalds, valewalkers, even battle bards, and basically every caster with a quickcast. Multiple enemies? Forget about it with next to no CC at your disposal... etc.

It's just too lacking to be at all viable as a solo class. If you enjoy a very challenging RvR experience I'm sure you will find each and every kill you get very rewarding as a Smiter, but often you will find yourself feeling very helpless.

I'm pretty sure im one of the few to try smiting but I think I will let someone else do it for real as the reason nobody does it is because they suck.

rr11 smite cleric on live. Character was made on daoc launch.

Ive seen the ups and downs of smiting.at this patch level=

Power cost absurd-
Damage is mediocre ( Slow cast speed)
No access to Wild Power ( Crit smites)
Pbae Mez resist rate and timer is absurd.
If on timers you are dead in the water.
Your stun cost Absurd amount of power to cast and is resisted ALOT.
Viable Smite specs as it stands, aren't viable at all without Mastery of Focus access. you will be resisted at an insane %.

defense capabilities as it stands Block, evade, parry % you wont even land a melee hit.

Only benefit currently is your insta heals would be up more often.

Simple fix would be address power cost issue. Give RA access to mastery of focus and Wild power. Spec would be viable to a degree for small man.
And most of All add Cleric RR5 Retribution, ( would 1-2 sec stun anyone hitting you in melee for said duration)

Or you could increase weapons skill based on smite skill
