Scout Questions

Hello,

I'm looking to make a Scout, I'll be soloing mainly, and grouping up later in levels. I have no idea on how to spec him, is there a place that shows where to put spec points as I level for maximum efficiency? Also, how hard/expensive is fletching so I can make my own arrows, is there a tutorial on it somewhere?

Thanks!

Last arrows are at 490 Fletching.
It takes 50-100g to get here if you do it by mainly crafting arrows iirc.

For leveling up, just don't add point to stealth. Try to keep your bow spec close to your level until you reach 30+ and you're good to go.
I also leveled up achemy (only 500+ now) for endu pots and buff pot. It's is a little more expensive than Fletching but not by much. You should prioritise crafting poisons if you want to do it (it's the cheapest way). They allows me to chain yellow with little to no downtime and I can kill orange reliably at level 30+.

Thanks for the tips. I'm planning to level up a Gimp-Scout (my first L.50 back in the old days) as well after I'm done with my PvE Cab.

Another question regarding PvP spec:

Is there any reason to spec more than 35 in bow (last CS and RF1)? I heard the dmg increase to 40/45/50 bow is marginal? Are there any old and still useful dmg-logs to see the difference by my own?

Thanks,
Tamy

Regarding the bow spec on this server, I don't know.
But during OF / early NF, there was already almost no point going over 35 bow. Even for a scout.

I reached lv38 yesterday. 35 points in bow, and I don't plan to spec higher. I may be wrong tho. I didn't tested on the dummy yet but I sure will do when I'll be close to 50.

35+15(at rr5) is enought for bow, but speccing bow to 50 will lead to increasing your critshot cap dmg(not huge but still noticable)

personally, i think if you spec 50 bow, you should be able to shoot through caster PBT to get an easy kill (and usually die).

I think a long time ago this was a mechanic in place and i tried it on other servers with a ranger but its never worked.

Thats just my opinion, i think it adds to more viable uses for a archer type. Pretty sure infs/ etc can do it cant they?

Thank you guys! So probably 50 bow with items/rr would be the sweet spot.

Hyjacking this thread instead of making another. Ok, so I'm hearing that making a Saracen Scout is dumb idea because of low attributes and con....on top of that, editing the attributes on creation is a no no as well. Is this true? If so, I think I dun goofed. Also, I finally hit 20 and started the BG and noticed that Scout just isn't cutting it there. Range and time to fire are making it nearly impossible to actually play as an efficient stealther. At level 20, crit strike takes 8 seconds, and standard shots take 4-5 each, meaning even if you did get a crit shot off, the distance is closed usually before you can fire again. To top it off, 8 seconds is a long time, and 95% of the time results in the target getting out of range. Does this get better?

I've also noticed that the endurance cost of using your bow seems a bit insane. Each normal shot takes about 10% of your endurance. 1 crit shot and 2 normal shots is all I can usually get off by the time a PvE mob gets into melee range, and that usually leaves me with roughly 55-60% endurance to try and flail with my pointy stick for negligible damage at high endurance cost as well. Does this get better? More and more I play it feels like something isn't right with time and cost.

Saracean is the best race for a bow speced scout because of the high dex.

Endu isn't really noticeable. You'll use pots later anyway. Tireless is a RA you want to take.
At Higher lv, with 200+ qui it will be more like 3s normal shoot 4s crit.

Note that archers are trash tier on this server. If you feel like everyone and everything both outdamage and outsustain you, this is normal.
Scout is by far the worst if you don't have access to buffs. If you're buffed, you're ok against other archers.

You die to everything else.

If you don't care about playing a strong character, the scout is a fun class. Otherwise if you want a stealther, you better roll a minstrel like everyone else. Infiltrators are good too, but you won't be grouped.

I'm definitely seeing the trash tier playing you mentioned. I've spent hours in battlegrounds, and it's just a pain with Scout. I haven't killed a single person yet solo with surprise hit and buffed with decent gear. My crit seems to only do half damage to even caster types, and I don't get a 2nd shot because at that point i'm being hit with something that interrupts. The massive delay in firing topped up with low ranged damage is just painful in both PvE and PvP....It just doesn't feel like it's on the same level playing field as other classes as it is now. I played a Scout years ago during ToA, and I don't remember it being this bad. I'm hoping they do something to change it.

Unless you played with a buff bot, I think it was this bad during SI / early ToA. Scouts have always been garbage until very late with MoS/dual wield nerf.
And even there, their only prey would be other stealthers.

However, due to the ra/stealth changes, I think they're even worse now if you defend the frontier.

You better accept it or roll something else lol xD.
On live I eventually rolled an infil for that reason back in the days. It pissed me off but well... I didn't regret it afterwards.
