Paladin grouping question

I'm currently Playing as a 2-H Paladin but as I can tell I end up tanking or peeling more than DPSing, I feel the role of Paladin plays well as 2-H but in groups the taunt style and swing speed even with maxed Qui and buffs there is still a lot of lost time trying to peel mobs fast. Should I just go Sword and Board until 50 or is paladin expected to be more 2-H DPS in groups? also if going S&B should I as Briton go Slash ?

While the 2.5x skillpoints give you the ability of going 50 2h, 42 shield, 4x chants, 3x dmg type and even some left overs in parry you'll have to keep in mind that you'll also have to keep twisting while switching between shield and 2h and running around. If you're good at that and make a name for yourself you might have a chance.
A reaver with soulrending instead of chants and without the need of a dmg type (thereby overcomming your extra skill points) will easily out dmg you (levi) and block better than you do (more dex). Not to mention merc and arms are both on another level aswell.
Don't forget that even infils (thanks to dw and env) and friars (thanks to the new dmg table) can out-dps you.

My suggestion: Make a use of your plate armor and the extra af and go 50 shield, 4x chants (you can go "all in" to 49 or stop early once you got red endu or somewhere inbetween), 18+ thrust (or accordingly in crush solely for the to-hit on the taunt style) and left overs in parry. Then proceed to tank stuff and let others do the dps.
During leveling I'd keep shield @lvl, chants either too or close to and put the remaining points into thrust. You could go crush aswell as the taunt has a to-hit aswell so pick either. Put points into parry once you have extra points to spare.
Being briton doesn't matter. Having a specific race for a certain class/build is for min-maxers so just stick with it
