Noob Infil questions

A friend of mine made a Scout and I made an Infil, and we have been leveling them together. Last night we hit 30, despite the fact that I know absolutely nothing about the class I am playing (yes, I know that's common, but not for me...I've been playing the game since it came out, but never really played a sneak long enough to learn the ins and outs).

Anyway, I talked to an experienced Infil, and he told me that for just pure leveling, I should keep Envenom and DW at level, and put the rest in Slash. I have been doing that, and at 29 (haven't trained for 30 yet), I am 28 DW/28 Envenom/21 (+6) Slash. With my pluses, I have been using the level 30 DoT poison and the level 31 crippling poison.

I guess the reason I am writing this is because I still don't know hardly anything about the mechanics of the Infil class. I assume that Slash works just like any other class, i.e., you want its composite value to be at least 3/4 of your current level (and preferably equal to level) to reduce variance by keeping the minimum as high as possible. But what do all these points I'm putting in DW do ? Do they increase my chance to hit with my offhand weapon ? And what determines my max damage.....is it also my DW skill ?

So far I have been using mostly DW back and Slash side styles on the mob after my Scout friend pulls it with the bow, along with the DW Evade 2-chain for the occasional Evade. This is working really great. I guess I am worried that once I hit 50 and get out into the "real world of big boy RvR", i.e., alone, I will have no idea what to do.

Any and all input will be appreciated.
Thanks !!!

If you're duoing, Respec to CS.

CS styles hit harder than slash or dw styles ever will.

If your scout friend is pulling, you can stealth and hit the mob with perforate artery as they're coming in and the thing should pretty much be dead at that point.

Keep CS at 1 below level up to at least 39 skill, keep stealth and venom at level after bonuses, put the rest in slash and left overs in dual wield.

Dual wield is nice to have, while leveling it's probably the lowest priority.

The guy is right about leveling : this way you get the most damage possible against mobs. DW points rises your offhand hit chance and dw style damage.

On the other hand, if you want to train basic mechanics about infiltrators, do as Ashenspire says. However the best would be to go on the battlegrounds, because mobs are... not players.

Higher DW skill will raise your chance to swing offhand and increase style damage when using a DW style. I'm not exactly sure how it works here but on the live server 101% of level in the weapon (slash in your case) gave 100-125 % of base damage while 3/4 was 75-100% base damage if I remember correctly. There was no bonus for going more than 1 point over level unless you were going to use base weapon styles.

Are you duoing with your Scout friend a lot or all the time?

If so, I agree with respeccing to a CS build. That will also teach you a little about the play style that happens in RVR.

A CS build also works when soloing, but high Envenom seems to make grinding quicker since you don't need Stealth.

When solo leveling, I typically keep Envenom equal with my level (actual skill points, not composite), then I put points into Weapon (thrust or slash) almost equal to level.

Then I put the rest into DW.

So your current spec is flipped. Speccing into weapon increases your base damage, and damage of those styles you use.

DW just increases your chance to hit with your offhand and damage of DW styles.

But if you're duoing constantly with a Scout, I'd go the CS route. Chances are you may not need to invest much into stealth as long as the Scout initially maintains aggro at the start of the fight. CS also has decent anytime and evade styles.
