Matter Cabalist spec

I'm about to turn 50 on my Matter Cabalist, and since I'll be losing all the free respecs, I'm intent on making the right choices for the final spec. This will be strictly a PvE farmer to support my other characters.

I'm inclined to go 50 matter for the final damage shield, but I've read conflicting views on whether to dump the rest into body to reduce variance on lifedrain (50 matter 20 body 4 spirit) or into spirit for better pet buffs (50 matter 20 spirit 4 body.)

I'm also curious why all the old guides recommended stopping at less than 50 matter. The most common spec I can find in old guides are:
46 matter 28 body 4 spirit. This gives up the last damage shield and the last single target dot for a better lifetap. Is there a reason to forgo that last damage shield?

Also, I'm having trouble finding out good information on the pets, since they were changed so much in the patches that happened after the 1.65 patch. Amber for focus pulls, ruby for casting when in groups. But when do I use Sapphire or Emerald or Jade? Sapphire was the healing pet, and Jade was the main focus puller in the later patches. Not true for Phoenix, right? What use do these pets have on Phoenix?

So many views and no replies..I'll bite.

For strict pve I would suggest 50 matter / 20 spirit. This gets you the best focus shield in matter and some pet buffs from spirit. Body won't really help you, as any dps you would do outside of the focus shield would be stacking your dots.

Reaching from my memory from my old cabby with repect to this patch cycle on phoenix, a 46/28/5 matter/body/spirit spec would be a matter cabalist rvr spec. You'd get the best ae dot and nearsight, as well as an aoe disease. Nice for zerging and keep siege/defense (especially this) but far from ideal for 8-man. The focus shield is pointless for rvr, so that's why you'd stop at 46 matter.

Petwise, focus pulling would typically use amber due to its higher hit points and self con buff, and its stun procs to add some more survivability. Sapphire is nice for if you want to chain mobs solo with its lifetap proc, but it does not actually cast heals. Ruby (ranged damage) and emerald (disease/dot procs) offer nice options for rvr. Jade doesn't offer anything better than the others. It just has a bad damage shield.
