Considering that I like many others have no experience regarding the rvr of the game, it would be really nice to receive some sort of guide to better understand what the role of each class is.
What is the task of each individual class in an 8 RVR group? What people expect from it?
For example what a mercenary is expected to do?
I will post here a classes list for anyone willing to answer:
- Armsman- DET9 Stoic tank, most consider it the best peeler in the game due to ability to get 27s snare chain in the thrust line and the anytime crippling blow style in polearm. Job is to float as a guard bot/peel tanks off your casters/support. Great defensive group RA's that can turn the tide of a fight (Dashing Defense, Soldier's Barricade).
- Cabalist- Typically the MA (Main assist) for caster groups via body debuff. Also brings str/dex/haste debuffs, nearsight, disease, pet. Lots of utility to play with. Also can debuff root as well.
- Cleric- Spec line buffs. Pure support player w little aggressive activity (aside from the occasional stun, smite, or melee interupt of a caster/support)
- Friar- base line buffs, primary nearsight cure, incredible snare ability, heals, ST RA. Another support class that has a much different playstyle than cleric.
- Mercenary- DET9 Stoic tank, capable of being snare tank if needed but not quite as good as armsman. Can spec to be guardbot but typically would be used primarily as a tank DPS train player (often is the MA for tankers).
- Minstrel- This role is a ton of work and a LOT of buttons. Primary function is interupts, demezz, mezz, speed, etc. Has a place in every single 8v8 composition and is a high skill cap class, but that skill cap has been reduced some by the custom changes on phoenix. Pet can be used to break CC on you or your group members as well.
- Necromancer- Primary role would be in a tanker group. Double AF Debuff, con debuffs, snare spell, some damage. Interesting class that isn't highly played in the 8v8 environment BUT has a lot of potential especially with the changes incoming for alb tankers.
- Paladin- Det tank with a similar role to armsman but brings a different set of utility, especially for tanker groups. The endurance chant is a primary reason and peels are decent, but lack an anytime that makes the armsman so good. Also, no stoicism so more susceptible to CC. Addition of Dashing Defense to paladin makes them even more attractive for grouping as well. Also, most groups ignore the fact that Paladins can rezz /wink.
- Reaver- Very spikey DPS that is dependent on positional styles. Brings some ranged interupts and the ability to guard. Det tank but no stoicism so like the paladin, is more susceptible to CC than a merc or armsman. Ability to use twf can help decide or turn the tide of a fight as well.
- Sorcerer- Primary CC class for Albion. A lot of buttons to use. AE mezz, single target mezz, base debuffs, spec debuffs, demezz. Good 8v8 active RA's include ichor, concentration, moc, and some more im probably forgetting. DPS is useful for the body debuff train as well. If group runs two sorcs, one may be body spec and be primarily on the DPS train with the cabalist with some added demezz/debuff/single target mezz responsibility.
- Theurgist- Pets, pets, pets, more pets, and PBT, haste, dmg add, and haste debuffs.
- Wizard- Role in 8v8 groups is not much but is possibly adapting with the addition of matter nukes for alb casters recently. Brings matter debuff, red nearsight, heavy spike damage, and dot's which may eventually find a role in 8v8 but is debatable. Can debuff root with cold debuff similar to cab w body debuff. Would probably be MA in 8v8 but as I said, this role is relatively new and hasn't really been tested out too much since the changes as far as I know. Some groups are looking into trying this I believe.
This will hugely help me and many others to pick the right class,
thank you!
