Anyone's thoughts on the Friar class?

Hi, I am pretty new to DAOC (played at the game start but not since). I have been doing some reading and am interested in joining this server saturday.

Friar's seem really cool and this shard seems to have given them some buffs? I don't really know what all of these things means as I have not played this game in forever so wanted to get some opinions about grouping viability, RvR viability and solo viability of the Friar class on this server with these buffs.

Any suggested specs would also be welcome.

Frair is a great solo class but I don't think you'll be invited to rvr groups anytime soon

Friar is a great choice for PvE, group or solo. However in RvR you’ll struggle to get into groups because they lack the tools of a Cleric in healing/Rezzing/RA’s and their damage (staff) doesn’t bring anything to the table that another class can’t do better. This is coming from someone who wanted to play one, sat down last night looking at various specs and RA’s and finally decided I couldn’t justify him in RvR. I’d point you to the Paladin or Cleric.

Despite some roleplayer on the staff wanting Friar to be viable, it won't be until it gets cure nearsight.

It's going to depend on how you like to play the game. It will be great for solo/duo PvE and more than ok for solo/small man PvP. But you won't be coveted by groups for either activity.
If that's ok with you then it's a very fun class to play.

Think all solos regardless of class will get rolled by groups/zergs...

Back in the day on DAoC live, solo and small group stuff was definitely something that happened; it was simply a matter of where you looked and how you went about it. You inevitably would get rolled by 8man groups or zergs but you just need to be ready for that and savor the smaller stuff you can find in between. My buddy and I would get some great fights in the RVR dungeons for example. While nobody can say for sure how it will work here with the population, I think that the devs have gone out of their way to try and contrive mechanics in RvR that will help feed this sort of play in addition to the standard zerg or 8man play styles.

Like all melee classes if you can straff and side stun you will do fine. If you can't, like me, just don't play one.
