Any advice on leading a group of misfits? (PUG)

So, I’ve noticed the lack of leadership in the BG’s (I’m still trying to find a class I really want to stick with) and was wondering if anyone has any advice for leading a group of random people/classes in battle?

I’ve decided that I will attempt to be one of the misfit leaders, and I have found that when I get everyone on the same page, we appear to die less often.

However, my main problem is everyone is still defaulting to the thinking they can take on someone 1v1, instead of just focusing on the primary targets first. (which typically results in all the mez/stuns/roots being broken and us folding like a deck of cards)

Tell them what to do in a group fight and educate them. Then just hope they won't forget it all on the instant of seeing an enemy.

And try being positive about everything even if you just got wiped. There really isnt much you can do if your team is not willing to learn and thinks its a good idea to 1on1 the Half Ogre Shield spec armsman(speaking from a mid perspective) instead of going for casters and supports.

Get everyone in your group into voice/discord.

I agree this might be the best way, however, I don't want to exclude people who don't have this setup.

I guess I'll make a macro for discord group invite/chat information

-Communication is the primary concern. Players don’t have to participate in Discord but should be willing to tune in. Not doing so leads to an immediate disadvantage in communication because so many are using discord. You can overcome skill deficiencies through swift communication and keep people on the same page via targets ect.

-Positive attitude is always useful and welcomed. Encourage, praise, and motivate your group. You can always find highlights in any aftermath situation. If a player is being excessively negative/critical to abusive to others in the group, remove them after a warning- your group will be better off.

-Lead by example, don’t act like a know it all who’s constantly telling others what to do how to do it where to go ect. Listen to the group, delegate duties, ask for suggestions of where to go or who to invite into group, strategies ect.

-Always have a objective. While listening is important a leader leads- always be ready to assume command of a situation on where to go next, be clear on the goals of the group “we’re attempting to take X keep first”, and know what you’re talking about I.e if players sense you’ve no idea how or what your doing they’ll lose faith in your ability to lead. If a dispute arises between several members of the group quickly squelch the dispute as amicably and reconciliatory as possible- but act decisively and insist on unified respectful attitudes amongst the group.

Good luck!

While that's considerate, everyone should have Discord if they play any online game.

Lots of macros with big angry letters xD

Seriously though, just some simple stuff like INC, Push, Fall back etc might actually help a bit

Roll a class that can lead a grp (Sorc/minstrel basically)
Educate, don't complain
Make sure you yourself dont tunnelvision, focus on the bigger picture.
Do as you say
All the usual leadership crap...

Why should they? While i agree that having it makes it easier to communicate, i really don't think that its a must have. Especially if you know what you are doing.

At an absolute minimum even someone with no microphone can log into Discord via the browser. All they need is audio to hear your instructions.

I'm currently enjoying my Armsman, I honestly feel like I would be able to help talk/control the group compared to the CC... I guess having an idea of who is or isn't mez might be better at directing who to focus on first.

Any tips on what to do after we come upon another group? Any tips/tricks to get the upper hand? (Currently, we seem to be evenly matched with Mid, but Hib is 2x more)
